Fable 4 as fans are calling it is currently being developed by PlayGround Games, the studio behind the Forza Horizon series. The game will be made with the Forzatech game engine, which means it can be expected that the game will look absolutely gorgeous. Announced as 'Fable' in July of 2020, not very much is known about the new entry in the Fable series, but fans are surely excited to revisit Albion and carve their own heroic tale.

Originally released in 2004, the Fable series has seen a handful of successful entries, though interest in the series eventually fizzled out after Fable: The Journey released for Xbox Kinect. As it's been over eight years since a new Fable adventure was released, fans are more than ever eager to return to the sprawling and unique world of Albion. The Fable franchise is known for its witty and sarcastic humor, a band of loveable characters, colorful environments, and rich lore. With the anticipation of a new entry into the series, fans are left wondering how many characteristics from the prior Fable games will be included in this new iteration.

Who is Fable's Theresa?

One thing Fable games are known for are its loveable (and not so loveable) characters, who are wonderfully voiced, with simple yet complex struggles and aspirations. One of these characters is Theresa, a blind seer who has appeared in every Fable adventure thus far. She first appears in Fable 1 during the age of heroes as a little girl, sister to the main protagonist. During a bandit raid, she had her eyes removed by Jack of Blades when she refused to tell where the protagonist was. Eventually, she was found by an ex-hero named Twinblade and was cared for before she decided to join Twinblade's bandit clan.

Her ability to foresee the future grew as she got older, with her new bandit clan taking advantage of such powers. Eventually, the protagonist reunites with his sister and together they defeat Jack of Blades. Fable 1 is where the most growth for Theresa is shown, as it isn't until over 500 years later during the events of Fable 2 that Theresa makes an appearance. Theresa influences her great descendant, the protagonist, to purchase a music box at the beginning of Fable 2 before she adopts him. Throughout the game, Theresa helps guide the player as his mentor until the end of the game when she claims the Tattered Spire for herself.

Fable 3 and Fable: The Journey

Theresa appears 50 years later during the events of Fable 3 to guide the youngest child of Fable 2's protagonist. While still maintaining her residence within the Tattered Spire, Theresa offers the player advice and shows them how to utilize the Road to Rule. As the player seems to have more choice on the outcome of the story in Fable 3, Theresa plays more of a guiding role preparing the player for what is inevitably to come before she ultimately disappears.

Fable: The Journey takes place several years after the events of Fable 3, where Theresa plays a more prominent role. Forced from the Tattered Spire, Theresa employs the aid of the protagonist to save Albion from the encroaching corruption. Towards the end of the game, the player and Theresa make it to the Spire where she discovers a way to defeat the Corruptor. This is done when the player shines the Spire's light through Theresa as she makes a wish stating that her time in this world is over and that a new age is upon them. The player absorbs Theresa's powers and defeats the Corruptor once and for all.

After the events at the Tattered Spire, the protagonist of Fable: The Journey discovers that they are now blind. It is heavily inferred that after she made her wish, Theresa is no more and her powers are transferred to the hero of Fable: The Journey. If Fable 4 takes place after these events, it can be assumed that Theresa may not make an appearance. Though during the trailer for Fable 4, towards the end it shows Bowerstone Castle with no industrialization. Therefore, if Fable 4 takes place between the events of Fable 1 and Fable 2, it is very likely Theresa will make an appearance as she was alive during the 500 years between those two games.

Fable is in development for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
