Over the past few weeks, rumors have persisted that Fable 4 is in active development at Playground Games, the studio best known for its work on the Forza Horizon series. We still don't know if this is true or not, but that hasn't stopped Fable series creator Peter Molyneux from weighing in on the game. And as it turns out, if Molyneux had his way, the next Fable would have rideable dragons, among other interesting features.

Peter Molyneux has said that he thinks Fable 4 should have a creature bestiary, ranging from hordes of small creatures to rideable dragons and and god-sized giants. Molyneux would also like Fable 4 to feature a horse players can train as well as the ability to choose an animal companion. In Molyneux's version of Fable 4, players would be able to choose between past animal companions like the dog in Fable 2 and more bizarre choices, like a goldfish, for instance.

Besides the game's potential wildlife, Molyneux also revealed when he thinks it should be set in the Fable timeline. Molyneux believes Fable 4 would work best as a prequel to the first Fable game, with players serving as a founding member of the Heroes Guild. By setting Fable 4 in the past, Molyneux thinks that it would open the door for the game to feature magic "much more attuned to nature," and more brutal combat.

Rumor: Fable 4 is Being Developed by UK Studio - Fable box art

All of these ideas sound like they would be right at home in the Fable universe, but it's important to note that, as far as we know, Peter Molyneux is not actually involved in Fable 4's development. Molyneux has expressed a desire in the past to work on Fable 4, but if the game is in development at Playground Games as rumored, then he may be out of luck.

However, that doesn't mean Playground Games can't incorporate some of Molyneux's ideas into the game. In fact, some of Molyneux's suggestions seem like logical steps forward for the series, and may already be a part of the Fable 4 experience.

Of course, this is all speculation at this time. Fable 4 doesn't even officially exist yet, so fans shouldn't get too worked up until Microsoft makes an official announcement. In the meantime, it will be interesting to learn if any of the rumors about the game are true, like if its studio is Playground Games and if the Xbox One X is its lead platform.

Fable 4 is rumored to be in development for PC and Xbox One.
