New 'Fable 3' Trailer Calls Gamers to Action!

Fable 3 Concept Art

With the October 26 launch date just days away, it's no surprised that Lionhead Studios has released another trailer for their hotly anticipated upcoming title Fable III. With quotes from Peter Molyneux, Creative Director of MGS Europe, Louise Murray, Executive Producer of Fable III, Jay Alan, Cinematics Director, and Alex Skidmore, Lead Scriptor, 'A Call to Action' has more in common with a Developer's sale pitch than a gameplay trailer, but nevertheless, it's pretty darned cool to watch.

"To see injustice in a land that's crying out for a revolution; to be a rebel, deciding what's just and unjust; to experience people following you, believing in you; to lead the land your way." Peter Molyneux's introduction to the latest Fable III trailer 'A Call to Action' is one that's both believable and exciting.

Speaking at the Eurogamer Expo earlier this month, Molyneux made sure the audience was aware of his silence regarding the title; refreshingly, he wants the gamer to be surprised by the events the game has in store. Sure, the game's opening cinematic may have found its way online, but that doesn't really count, right?

'A Call to Action' (embedded above) doesn't really show much that we haven't seen before. As we already know, you play the sole remaining 'Hero' in Albion, sibling to the evil King, Logan. After a tough decision early on in the game -- Molyneux equated it to having the same impact as the decision at the end of Fable II -- you realize the extent of your brother's wickedness, and aim to overthrow him. Although most studios would leave that as the 'final boss fight', ending with a 'Happily Ever After' screen, Lionhead has built an entire extra game after that, where you must attempt to keep favor with your new countrymen and women, and stave off the country of Aurora, who may or may not want to wage war with you.

Personally, I'm really excited about Fable III. Yes, 'Over-promising and under-delivering' is a well-expressed view of the Fable series, but I've never been one to fall prey to hype; when entering the series with lukewarm expectations, what emerges is a funny, well-made and incredibly enjoyable experience. Although it's a shame that PC gamers will have to wait longer for the game's release, I've never been a big PC gamer, and the idea that my laptop could ever run the title is one that's laughable.

Mostly, I believe it's the stellar voice cast that has me excited. With talent such as Stephen Fry, Ben Kingsley and John Cleese, it's clear that the voice work will be phenomenal, and hopefully that's a good indication of the quality of the rest of the game. Either way, I'm excited to play the final product... even if it won't include Kinect support.
