After waiting 16 years since F-Zero Climax on the Game Boy Advance, fans of the futuristic racing series are used to disappointment when it comes to potential new games in the series. The wait will continue for some time more, after a Twitter account which was raising fans hopes of a new F-Zero game was found to be a hoax.

The previously protected account used an F-Zero name, appeared like it was using a Nintendo.co.jp address, and was created around the same time as a yet unconfirmed Super Mario 35th anniversary account, which raised hopes that it was genuine. However the first post from the account was definitely not in the family-friendly Nintendo tradition, and made it very clear that it was not linked to the company.

This means it is likely that the similarly registered SuperMario35th twitter account is also fake, although gamers cannot yet know for sure. Nintendo is known to be holding some form of 35th anniversary celebration, but information on what it may include is thin on the ground. Nintendo has already announced Super Mario themed Jenga and Monopoly celebration sets for August, but has not yet confirmed other rumors like a Super Mario Anniversary Games Compilation.

f-zero switch rumor

It appears that the person behind the F-Zero hoax was biding their time, waiting four months between registering the account and revealing the truth. Just enough time to get some gamers hopes up, although most long-time F-Zero fans know not to believe anything other than official confirmation.

With such passionate fans, it's a shame that F-Zero remains a franchise left behind by Nintendo, and one jumped on by trolls. That said, if the hoax helps to show Nintendo just how much interest there is in a new version of the fast-paced racer, it will be worth it after all.
