After months of legal trouble, The Flash star Ezra Miller has taken a plea deal for a burglary charge. The plea deal includes no prison time and a fine.
Miller's legal issues have overshadowed the production of The Flash. After being accused of breaking and entering into a neighbor's home in Vermont, Miller had previously pled 'not guilty' to the burglary charge and faced up to 20 years in prison. The incident was just one in a series of alleged bad behavior the star had engaged in last year, including allegations of grooming a minor. Several incidents in Hawaii were also reported that were allegedly violent.
According to Deadline, Miller has come to a plea deal agreement, allowing them to pay a $692 fine and take a lesser charge of trespassing. Under this count, Vermont law states that the prosecuted must be “imprisoned not more than 3 months or fined not more than $500.00 or both.” The actor will be paying a $192 surcharge on top of their fine.
This particular charge was not the heftiest of the allegations against Miller, which has resulted in some questioning why the actor is still actively employed by DC. A poll of American audiences suggests Miller's controversies warrant The Flash's cancellation. Considering the amount of money DC has poured into producing The Flash, such a move is infeasible. The loss of revenue would probably be unprecedented.
For now, Warner Bros. seems to be hoping Miller keeps out of the headlines for a while. Miller reportedly met with Warner Bros. executives about The Flash's future, and they seem to have kept out of trouble since then. On the other hand, that does not seem to be enough for audiences to forget and forgive. While Miller has tried to stay on a lowkey path, their controversies were notable enough that the internet quickly latched on to them, and the allegations appear whenever mention of The Flash is made.
Miller also announced that they are seeking help for complex mental health issues following a meeting with Warner Bros. executives. Mental health issues can be highly private, and it is not known what Miller may be dealing with. However, their future at DC may be too tarnished by this point, and they may not jump to James Gunn's new DC universe.
The Flash is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 16, 2023.
