Extraction, Netflix's most recent big hit, has been extremely popular among viewers, but many may be surprised to know that the movie originally had a much more explicit ending. Of course, spoilers for both the actual and original ending ahead, so those wanting to watch the movie and see for themselves should turn back now.

Those that have seen Extraction know that Chris Hemsworth's character, Tyler Rake, is shot through the neck at the end of the movie. Coughing up blood, he falls into a river, seemingly dying. At the end of the movie, however, a short scene shows what looks to be Rake, but the video quality is too distorted to really tell.

The director of Extraction, Sam Hargrave, recently revealed that the movie's ending was changed close to release. Originally, Rake's death was certain, and the movie left no room for viewers to believe or be uncertain about whether he died or not.

Hargrave says that he preferred the original ending, claiming that it was more intellectually satisfying, but the decision to change was made after testing showed that viewers would prefer the more emotionally satisfying conclusion of Rake living. The ending that fans got was a bit of a compromise there, as it still isn't entirely clear whether he is actually alive or not.

Extraction is available now exclusively on Netflix.
