Sylvester Stallone and many of his cohorts are returning for Lionsgate's The Expendables 4. Unfortunately, production on the sequel has not been without hiccups, as two crew members were injured in two separate events.

One of the injuries occurred during pre-production on the Lionsgate film when a painter fell from a high height. Reports confirm that the painter, who required hospital treatment, has now recovered. The second and most recent injury involved a stuntman who backed up a slow-moving vehicle over a camera assistant’s foot. The assistant has now recovered as well.

According to Deadline, a representative from the film spoke out about the incidents, adding, "The production of Expendables 4 is taking every precaution to ensure the safety of all crew." News of these injuries arrives after the tragic events on the set of Rust, the Western feature that was filming in New Mexico, that involved actor Alec Baldwin discharging a prop gun that ended up killing the film's cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring its director. While the incident was a freak accident, as Baldwin was unaware of the type of ammunition in the prop gun, producers on every film set are under greater pressure to ensure strict safety measures.

These aren't the only injuries that have occurred on an Expendables set, though. Looking back on the previous installments, the action franchise has experienced several incidents involving many of the film's stars and crew members facing injuries. Reports indicate that while filming Expendables 2 in 2011, 26-year-old stuntman Kun Liu was killed while performing on an inflatable boat in Bulgaria and another stuntman was severely injured.

In 2014, Stallone shared that he suffered his share of injuries throughout the making of all of his Expendables films, adding, "When I do The Expendables I break my neck, my spine, and dislocate shoulders. I fell on my back and had to put some metal in there.” Star Terry Crews also recalled his near-death experience involving co-star Jason Statham driving a truck into the Black Sea, while Antonio Banderas sustained a knee injury during the first day on set on the third film.

Expendables 4 will be directed by Scott Waugh (Act of Valor, Need for Speed) and will see the return of Stallone as Barney Ross, Statham as Lee Christmas, Dolph Lundgren as Gunner Jensen, and Randy Couture as Toll Road. New additions include Megan Fox, Eddie Hall, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, Tony Jaa, and Andy García. The ensemble action franchise centers on a group of mercenaries carrying out numerous missions across the globe. The franchise, while receiving mixed reviews, has been praised for its tribute to 1980s/1990s action films and has also become a box office success.

Expendables 4 is set to release in 2022.
