At the latest PlayStation State of Play event, Capcom surprised fans with the reveal of a new co-op dinosaur shooter game called Exoprimal. Capcom has been quiet about Exoprimal since the game's initial reveal, but it has now clued fans in on when they can expect the next news update.

Taking to Twitter, Capcom has confirmed that more information on Exoprimal will come at some point early this summer with even more updates coming later this year. Capcom did not provide a specific date when fans can expect the Exoprimal news drop this summer, but it's possible it will be tied to Summer Game Fest or some other industry event. Since Exoprimal was revealed during a PlayStation State of Play, perhaps it will be shown at the summer version of the event that is likely to take place (but has yet to be officially announced).

Whenever Capcom does decide to release a new Exoprimal trailer, it will be interesting to see how fans react to it. The Exoprimal reveal trailer has proven to be controversial for a number of reasons, with Dino Crisis fans especially upset that Capcom is making a new dinosaur game that isn't a remaster, reboot, or remake of that classic survival-horror title.

In fact, many fans felt tricked by the Exoprimal trailer, thinking that it was a new Dino Crisis game announcement or would otherwise have connections to Capcom's dormant dinosaur survival-horror series. After all, Exoprimal features dinosaurs and portals, both key to Dino Crisis, and one of the Exoprimal characters looks suspiciously like Dino Crisis protagonist Regina. It's possible that these similarities are a coincidence or were otherwise unintentional, but that seems unlikely.

For those who haven't been following the game, Exoprimal is a co-op shooter with PvP elements. In Exoprimal, players are split up into two teams of five, equipped with powerful mech suits that they can use to fight massive hordes of dinosaurs. Exoprimal's trailer may have upset Dino Crisis fans who are growing impatient for a new game in the series, but it also turned heads for the sheer number of dinosaurs it showed on-screen at once.

Once the controversy dies down, it's possible Exoprimal will be a surprise hit. As it stands, Exoprimal isn't due out until sometime in 2023, so it will likely be quite a while before fans get to play it and make a determination themselves.

Exoprimal launches in 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
