It's a new era for multiplayer games and August has delivered on that, with titles including Hyper Scape and Fall Guys launching. Now indie developer Gingerbred is joining in on the fun with something entirely different. Today the team announced ExoCorps, a fast-paced online multiplayer games pitched as "Jetpack-Powered Exosuit Deathmatch!"

The ExoCorps announcement trailer shows that the game delivers on its pitch. Players are placed in a desert where they use all manner of railguns and missiles to try and destroy their exosuit-wearing enemies, all while flying through the air at hyper-fast speeds with their jetpacks. The premise is that players are testing dangerous technologies, helping to "define a new paradigm of war."

There's absolutely some depth to ExoCorps' gameplay, too. Not only is suit power the players' health, but it's also their ammunition. Players will have to balance the use of the two. Also, flying around produces heat that can be used by enemies for weapon targeting. Gingerbred says that these systems create an intense mix of offense and defensive action. This unique design is certain to ensure ExoCorps stands out from the line-up of great multiplayer shooters currently available.

ExoCorps is tentatively planned to  launch in Steam Early Access "soon." The Early Access release will focus on the "foundational mechanics"  of the game, featuring online multiplayer with 5 maps. It'll eventually also feature a full team-game experience, dedicated server support, character customization, more maps, and a tutorial experience. Gingerbred expects about 6-12 months to pass between Early Access launch and full launch, though delays do happen.

ExoCorps releases soon on PC.
