Ewan McGregor's performance as young Obi-Wan Kenobi was universally regarded as one of the prequel trilogy's few strengths. That's why, of the many Star Wars miniseries slated to be released, the one fans are looking forward to most is the one led by McGregor himself, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

With Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi coming out only a few months from now, it was only a matter of time until McGregor would be asked to share his experience of what it was like to play one of his most iconic roles again. McGregor detailed what it was like to come back to the Star Wars franchise 17 years after the release of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith.

In a recent interview with Forbes, McGregor sounded optimistic about what fan reception would be like when the Obi-Wan Kenobi series is released. "I think it’s really going to satisfy Star Wars fans. I always felt there was a story between Episode III where I finished playing Obi-Wan in the movies and Episode IV where Alec Guinness is Obi-Wan Kenobi," McGregor explained. "The writers and Deb and I and everyone, I think we crafted or they crafted a very fine storyline. I think people are going to like it."

Since McGregor's co-star from the prequels, Hayden Christensen, is also slated to return as Anakin Skywalker, the Obi-Wan Kenobi lead talked about what it was like reuniting with Christensen, potentially hinting at flashbacks to before Anakin became Darth Vader. "I think it’s no secret that Hayden Christensen comes back," McGregor noted, "and we got to play scenes together again as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker and it was just fantastic to work with him again."

No matter what direction this series goes in, fans can all agree that it's both fun and heartwarming to see McGregor back as Obi-Wan Kenobi again. Seeing him return to a role that he clearly took to heart when he portrayed the popular Star Wars character from 1999 to 2005 feels like seeing an old friend again. Especially when all signs suggest his passion in playing this character has not waned in the 17 years since.

The fans of course want this series to be good, but, above all else, they just don't want McGregor's portrayal as young Obi-Wan to get ruined. With all that went wrong with Star Wars prequels, it would be an unforgivable sin to see one of the few choices that went right come apart at the seams. McGregor most surely will give it his all, but that may not result in the story being good overall. Just look at the prequels for reference.

Star Wars:Obi-Wan Kenobi is scheduled to be released on Disney Plus on May 25th, 2022.
