Actor Ewan McGregor won his first Emmy Sunday night for the Netflix series Halston, in which he plays the titular fashion designer and icon. During the backstage press conference, McGregor was humble and complimentary towards the other nominees and winners. He also talked a little about the highly anticipated Disney Plus series Obi-Wan Kenobi, confirming that the upcoming Star Wars TV show has wrapped production.

Speaking to the press, McGregor said, “We finished shooting our series, and it was really, really good fun. I really enjoyed working with [director/executive producer] Deborah Chow, and I think it will not disappoint." McGregor played the younger version of Jedi mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi in all three of George Lucas' Star Wars prequels. Now, he is reprising his role for the first time in over a decade.

While plot details are thin at the moment, we do know that the Obi-Wan Kenobi series will take place sometime between the prequels and the original trilogy. Actor Hayden Christensen, who played Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, is also reprising his role for the series. During the backstage press conference, McGregor also explained that Obi-Wan Kenobi will employ "new technology" and that making the series was a "different experience than making the original three films." This makes sense considering the impressive new visual effects techniques used to create Disney's first live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian.

Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi Darth Vader rematch

McGregor's portrayal of Obi-Wan Kenobi is widely regarded by the fanbase as being one of the highlights of Lucas' controversial prequel trilogy. No matter where you stand on those films, it's easy to agree that McGregor's performance as the Jedi Master is outstanding. For many, he's the definitive version of Obi-Wan Kenobi, so it's nice to hear from McGregor himself that he is not only excited for the series but that he believes the show will not disappoint the fans.

Star Wars has always had a tricky relationship with prequels, and the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series will inevitably be delving into the past of a well-established universe. Hopefully, McGregor, Chow, and the rest of the cast and crew can deliver a satisfying conclusion to the Obi-Wan Kenobi saga, as this will likely be the last time the character appears in live-action.

Obi-Wan Kenobi also stars Joel Edgerton, Maya Erskine, Rupert Friend, Moses Ingram, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kan, Simone Kessell, Kumail Nanjiani, Bonnie Piesse, Benny Sadie, and Indira Varma. As for Christensen, his return to the role of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader for the first time since Star Wars: Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith is highly anticipated by fans of the prequels.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is expected to premiere sometime in 2022 on Disney Plus.
