When players get together with a group of friends to play Evil Dead: The Game, they'll likely be coordinating their efforts to defeat the demon. And that's a wise thing, if every role isn't covered, they'll be missing a very critical asset against the deadites. Enemy demon players won't be kind and generally tend to exploit these weaknesses early and often.

But it's not as simple as having one of each class. Some leaders only help out ranged attackers. Some support survivors require a near-monopoly on the items. A perfectly synced up team is nearly impossible to beat in Evil Dead: The Game. These are the characters that mix together the best.

Leader: Ash Williams (Ash Vs Evil Dead)

Ability

Effect

Show Up And Blow Up

Active skill that generates an explosion, damaging enemies' balance bar.

El Jefe

An aura that affects all survivors within range, increasing their fear resistance and the damage they inflict.

Old Friend

Start the match with a chainsaw.

El Jefe Grande

Enhances your aura's effects when you perform a finisher or dismember an enemy.

There is, of course, a case to be made for every character left off of this list, but there is perhaps the least debate about Ash (Ash Vs The Evil Dead) being the best leader in the game. The other survivors grant auras that boost either melee or ranged damage; this version of Ash grants both.

Oh, and that same aura also reduces the effect of fear against the group. As a bonus, due to the nature of the bonuses, this leader should be predominantly on the front lines helping out with damage, which is quite helpful considering that many team compositions only have a sole unit up front to take on all that heat.

Warrior: Henry The Red

Ability

Effect

Unstoppable

Activating this ability temporarily prevents damage to health or shield.

Shields Up

Start the match with an additional shield bar.

Rebound

Reflects a percentage of the damage you receive back onto your attacker.

Battle Hardened

Increases maximum health and shield bar length.

Perhaps the greatest case to make for Henry the Red is his versatility. The other two choices are roped into trying to get a specific piece of melee weaponry. Henry can pick up the best available option, greatly contributing to his rank at the top of the best warriors.

Henry the Red also gets the distinction as the only "tank" in the game. Of course, no unit should be intentionally taking damage without trying to mitigate it, but it's going to be impossible to avoid all instances of damage. His extra health and shields make him very easy to heal for the supports, allowing him to be more brazen on the frontlines.

Hunter: Ed Getley

Ability

Effect

It's A Trap

When activated, this ability grants use of a unique flashlight that allows you to detect and temporarily disarm demon traps.

Enduring Light

Increases the battery life of your flashlight.

Weapon Master: Crossbow

The crossbow has a faster attack speed and deals increased damage, balance bar, and dismemberment damage.

The Collector

Increases the chance that defeated enemies will drop items; also improves the chance of finding crates of a higher rarity.

Ed Getley is a distinct choice from the other hunters, behaving more like a support for the team than a de facto damage dealer. Why then, is he the best hunter in the game and the ideal hunter for this group? It all comes down to The Collector, his final ability.

By having enemies drop more items like ammo, amulets, and Shemp's Cola, he keeps his team stocked to near maximum. If that's not enough, his increased chance of finding better crates results in plenty of legendary weapons to choose from by the end of the game.

The flashlight abilities aren't to be ignored, either. By turning one on before opening any crate, he eliminates the possibility of ever being attacked by a trap. That's a whole facet of demon damage wiped off of the map, incredibly valuable to any squad.

Support: Ash Williams (The Evil Dead)

Ability

Effect

Reassuring Presence

When activated, this ability reduces fear levels for you and nearby teammates.

Alternative Healing

Successful heavy melee attacks partially restore health for you and nearby teammates.

Marked Target: Damage

Headshots will mark the target; a follow up shot from a teammate will deal additional damage.

Marked Target: Healing

Headshots will mark the target; a follow up shot from a teammate will restore a percentage of the damage back to them as health.

There is hot competition for the best support survivor, but Ash Williams (The Evil Dead) takes the cake for this team. He has the usual healing via Shemp's Colas but edges out the other supports with his healing by lifesteal. This goes both for his heavy melee attacks and his headshots at range.

The character has to play very particularly, choosing to let other survivors finish off enemies after he has tagged them and rotating between ranged and melee attacks to heal everyone. But those who figure out the balance will find that he's the only character that has no cooldown and no ceiling on his healing output, an invaluable facet to his game.

Evil Dead: The Game was released on May 13th, 2022, and is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
