If any demon can make a group of survivors in Evil Dead: The Game quit before the match starts, it's the Puppeteer. And there is not much mystery as to why that is. The main mission giving players the hardest time is the third one due to the fact that it has one of Eligos' elite units.

If a single one of these is regularly ruining people's odds of victory, just imagine what can happen when it's controlled by a player and buffed with various skills and upgrades. Sounds overpowered? It is. But hey, if demons aren't playing to win Evil Dead: The Game, then what is the point of being the bad guy at all?

Skill Tree

There is no point in subtlety. Players will be inviting their friends and won't hold back on coordination, so why hold back with the puppeteer's best unit? The Demi-Eligos can keep cloning itself, forming an army of warriors while simultaneously striking from afar.

Some builds like to enhance the fear side of the equation because Eligos gets a boost to fear that his counterparts can't match. While possessing a survivor does have its advantages, the right team composition will completely negate fear as a factor. If too many eggs are in that basket, this translates to a lengthy defeat.

Instead, focus on possessing the elite unit. To complement the damage, health and infernal regeneration are also going to be important factors. Kandarian Fury gives players an extra 3% damage per second they possess a unit, meaning survivability translates directly to damage. With this build, the damage is such that survivors can die in just a couple of strikes toward the end of the match.

Upgrades

Evil Dead The Game Upgrade Priority For The Puppeteer

To maximize the duration possessing the elite Demi-Eligos, players will need to invest in three major upgrades: Infernal Energy, Portal: Elite, and Possession. These can be maximized very early on and this is an ideal time to strike, since the survivors won't have the equipment they need to survive such encounters.

Don't feel the need to possess every single Demi-Eligos; the AI is a nightmare to fight against when it has control of the unit. After these upgrades are done, it's a matter of supporting that unit with the boss. The invisibility and ranged attacks should distract the team long enough to allow the clones to overwhelm them regardless of what console they play on.

It's a simple strategy but it is unbelievably effective. Groups of four will be better equipped to handle the elite unit than the one that appears in the single-player mission, but that's without any upgrades at all. With a few boosts and player control, it becomes just as much of a nightmare as before.

Evil Dead: The Game was released on May 13th, 2022, and is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
