It’s been quite some time since a fresh Evil Dead video game dropped, as the horror IP’s most recent titles, Evil Dead: The Game for iOS and Army of Darkness: Defense for iOS and Android both came out in 2011, with there still being a significant void of a new core gaming incarnation of the property. Thankfully, though, fans of the cult horror phenomenon may not have to wait much longer for an announcement regarding a new video game version of the Evil Dead, as the actor behind the series' protagonist, Ashley "Ash" Williams recently teased a title's on the way.

According to Bruce Campbell (The Evil Dead, TV's Burn Notice), there's definitely a chance that a new Evil Dead game is in the works, with the actor responding to a fan query asking if the IP could have a new gaming installment soon. Campbell didn't go into specifics as to what the project might entail, but he did say that "yes", players could be given the ability to play as Ash yet again at some point in the future.

For those unaware, Campbell revealed several months ago that after the cancellation of the Starz series Ash vs. Evil Dead, he would be reprising the role of Ash for a new game, but he didn't offer any exact details other than to say it's going to be an "immersive" experience. This suggests that the project in question could wind up being a VR game of some kind, but it's worth noting that plenty of conventional video game releases from The Witcher 3 to Fallout: New Vegas have been marketed as having "immersive" gameplay, too.

At any rate, while it’s still far too early to tell exactly what the new Evil Dead game will be like, Campbell's tease should have horror aficionados excited about what's coming down the pipeline for the cult franchise. The brand's had its fair share of decent-to-solid game releases in the past with titles like Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstick and Evil Dead: Regeneration, so one can only hope that not only will the next gaming iteration of the property become the best game in the series yet, but also one of the best horror games of its generation once it does officially release.

The new Evil Dead game has yet to receive an official announcement.
