Everything Everywhere All at Once has a simple enough premise despite its mind-bending visuals. Evelyn is a mild-mannered laundromat owner. She is estranged from her father, husband, and daughter, and she is also being audited by the government. Life is not going well for her.

Then, during her IRS meeting, she starts to find out that there are other realities out there. Her husband, Waymond, tries to explain this to her as another version of himself. Now, it’s up to her to save the multiverse from collapsing in on itself. Of the many universes in Everything Everywhere All at Once, these are some of the best.

Spoiler Alert

8 Evelyn’s Universe

Evelyn in Everything Everywhere All At Once

The starting universe deserves some praise. It may not be as outlandishly funny or cool as the other ones out there, but it is important to the story. All worlds collide at this one point in time. It’s because Evelyn failed at everything in life that she is able to accomplish anything.

That’s more or less a quote from the movie. It sounds confusing but it makes perfect sense. This normal universe also has a lot of heart. It’s where Evelyn and Joy finally make up thus preventing the multiverse from collapsing in on itself.

7 The Alphaverse

Waymond in Everything Everywhere All At Once

The Alphaverse is where this jumping ability comes from. It’s a very low-fi futuristic society. Another version of Evelyn, along with Waymond, invent the process. This tinkering with space and time eventually catches up with them thus creating Jobu Tupaki.

It may sound like a fun idea to jump to another universe or travel through time. It’s also important to know that everything has a price. Sometimes the payment isn’t worth it. Thankfully everything works out in the end in Everything Everywhere All At Once but who is to say how it would go down in reality.

6 The Sign Spinner Universe

Evelyn in Everything Everywhere All At Once

Not much time is shown in this universe. All the audience knows is that Evelyn works at a pizza shop. She is shown wearing a ridiculous costume and waving around a sign.

Does she just work there or does she own this business with Waymond too? Whatever the case may be, this sign spinning ability allows her to wield a shield like she was Captain America or something. It’s a small bit in the movie, but it turns into a cool fight. That’s why it deserves to be highlighted.

5 The Animated Universes

Evelyn in Everything Everywhere All At Once

There are two different animated sequences in Everything Everywhere All At Once. One can be seen toward the end when Evelyn is becoming one with every version of herself. One of these versions is animated sort of like a more painterly-looking anime. Another sequence looks like it was drawn by a child.

Jobu Tupaki and Evelyn are fighting in this drawing for about a minute before the scene changes again. This was the final battle between the two. While not much time is given to either universe, the idea of being animated in some other reality is fascinating.

4 Kung Fu Universe

A scene featuring characters in Everything Everywhere All At Once

This multiverse area is known as the Kung Fu Universe but that title is misleading. This is the same universe wherein Evelyn is an actress. After she refuses to run away with Waymond, she has more time to dedicate to acting. She becomes an action star and in training, she also becomes adept at martial arts.

This universe is a fun one because it sort of mirrors the life of Evelyn’s actress, Michelle Yeoh. One of her most famous action movies was Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. It’s no surprise then why she was cast in this role.

3 The Rockverse

Evelyn as a rock in Everything Everywhere All At Once

There are a lot of weird diversions in Everything Everywhere All At Once up to this point. People also do weird stuff in the movie from eating chapstick to planting themselves on rewards in the rear end. One of the strangest universes is the one where humanity never existed. Earth is just a bunch of rocks.

This scene, between Rock Jobu Tupaki and Rock Evelyn, can lead to an uncomfortable silence in the theater. This may then lead to some awkward laughs. Not much happens in this universe but the unexpected is sometimes the best. There’s another universe that depicts them as inanimate objects but in that one they are piñatas. That deserves a quick mention too.

2 Hot Dog Fingers

Evelyn in Everything Everywhere All At Once

Waymond is the first martial artist in the film that gets to show off his stuff. Evelyn eventually gets to kick butt against Deirdre. However, it takes a while to get to the right universe. She accidentally stumbles upon a realm where almost everything is exactly the same.

The only difference is that people have hot dogs for fingers which also squirt out mustard and ketchup for some reason. Humanity then learns to get quite adept at using their feet instead. That’s all wild enough but it is even funnier seeing that Evelyn and Deirdre are in love.

1 Raccaccoonie

Evelyn in Everything Everywhere All At Once

This universe is also close to “normal” reality. It may not be as bizarre as people with hot dog fingers or sentient rocks. However, the setup and payoff for Raccaccoonie is a chef’s kiss. When Evelyn tries to explain to Joy and Waymond that their bodies were being controlled, she likened the situation to Raccaccoonie. Joy, and the audience, are made to believe that Evelyn is mistaking the title for the Pixar film, Ratatouille.

It turns out she wasn’t confusing anything. Evelyn already saw a universe wherein a fellow chef, Chad, is being controlled by a raccoon. Are there other raccoons in this universe that can do this? Of all the multiverses in Everything Everywhere All At Once, this realm deserves its own spinoff the most.
