Despite creative trinkets, clever traps, and useful slabs, there is still no better way to take enemies out in Deathloop than a good old-fashioned gun. Guns will have to deal with turrets, security cameras, faceless goons, Visionaries, or Julianna herself, players need guns that deal with a variety of situations. Sadly, they only have three gun slots for which to cover these situations.

Some guns are up to the task, capable of handling a variety of situations and enemies. Others have only limited functionality and situations in which they can be effective. This is Colt's most important decision that he must make every day, so here are the best, and worst, guns in Deathloop.

Updated on September 19th, 2022 by Hodey Johns: With Deathloop heading to Game Pass, it seemed like this list needed another glance. It's been over one year since the release of the game and the community is tight and strong. This allows for a rather productive dialogue regarding which guns withstood the test of time and which ones fell flat. After checking out the forums, this list has been revised and re-ordered based on the best insider information available. Experts that still play this game have needed to make adjustments as the PvP aspect is now even more of a hindrance than the PvE portion. It will be even more relevant with a batch of new gamers who will now have to go against a fully-armed Julianna.

12 PT-6 'Spiker'

Deathloop Adjusting The Trinkets On The PT-6 Spiker

Every gun on this list has an advantage over other guns except for the PT-6 'Spiker.' It has a built-in silencer, but there are other handguns that have a silencer modifier that have better range, damage, and firing rate than this one.

The nail in the coffin is that getting a "strong" shot off requires charging it up. Even with the best trinkets, this shot sometimes fails to kill normal enemies with headshots, alerting everyone to Colt's presence, and defeating the entire purpose of this "silent" weapon. The charge-up time makes it the worst in the game during open combat and against Julianna. Unless Deathloop gets a sequel like Outer Worlds 2 and changes all the guns around, this will remain the worst weapon without competition.

11 Strelak Verso

Deathloop Adjusting The Trinkets On The Strelak Verso

There are only four gold quality weapons in the game, so it might be shocking to see one so low on this list. The concept of the guns is that they can be used as dual handguns or a machinegun with a three-round burst. But as individual handguns or as a machinegun, they are among the worst in either form.

The point of dual-wielding is that players can apply two different debuffs (or buffs) at once, but these are limited to the debuff already on the gun. Machineguns need to be fully automatic or hard-hitting and the Strelak Verso is neither of these. It's cool to flip between the modes, but the payment for this versatility is a below-average weapon when compared to the rest.

10 Rapiér

Deathloop Adjusting The Trinkets On The Rapier

The rapier exists somewhere between a sniper rifle and a shotgun, getting one-hit kills on NPCs with about any body shot. While technically listed as a sniper rifle, the damage falloff is substantial and will need the right trinkets for those who want to use it as a sniper rifle.

It's better used as a shotgun with a single bullet in the chamber. It will kill about any enemy up close, but it does require a reload after each shot. Even if not practical, players may enjoy the Rapiér due to its up-close visual carnage, making this a fantastic, rated M game.

9 Strelak 50-50

Deathloop Adjusting The Trinkets On The Strelak 50-50

A shotgun that fires like a machinegun is a cool concept and the Strelak 50-50 mostly realizes this dream. It fires in bursts of two with a single squeeze and dispenses shells quickly with the trigger fully squeezed.

The biggest issue here is the damage compared to other shotguns isn't up to snuff. It chews through a lot of ammo to kill most opponents unless they are up close. Getting killed by a Strelak 50-50 will make most gamers wonder what the meaning of death is in video games.

8 Sepulchra Breteira

Deathloop Adjusting The Trinkets On The Sepulchra Breteira

Though the Rapiér is listed as a sniper rifle, the Sepulchra Breteira is really the only sniper rifle to use as a long-range weapon. It comes with a handy scope and a Zoom that is great when invading a single-player campaign as Julianna against a poor, unsuspecting Colt.

There are two notable drawbacks when using this gun. First of all, it flashes a gleam of light at whoever is being aimed at, so it ruins stealth. Second, it's got a tiny chamber and a long reload time, so after firing the first shot, players will likely have to switch weapons and prepare for a full-on fight. Still, it's a magnificent first shot.

7 The Fourpounder

Deathloop Adjusting The Trinkets On The Fourpounder

That signature gun on the front of the game? Yeah, that's The Fourpounder. Designated as a handcannon, it lives up to the title and then some with nasty shots on either the body or the head. The range is underrated and the power is way higher than any other single-handed weapon.

The biggest drawback is that using them as dual-wielded weapons makes them inaccurate and they are prone to missing badly when fired from the hip. This can be corrected with trinkets, though never fully eliminated. As a single gun, it's tough to find better.

6 Consistancy Automatic

Deathloop Adjusting The Trinkets On The Consistancy Automatic

Some fights seem to last forever, barraging Colt with waves of enemies all alerted to his location from all over the map. Reloading is an awful way to die. In a prolonged fight in a game that takes a while to beat, these deaths will add up.

The Consistancy Automatic does technically need to be reloaded, but because it has two magazines, it can keep firing from one magazine while the other is in use. By rotating the mags, Colt never has to stop to reload. It chews through ammo quickly, but that's a small price to pay for the output.

It's better used as an "Oops" gun when everything goes wrong than a first choice. But it can be built for both PvP and PvE encounters. Gamers may want to have one of each if they prefer the loud-and-proud approach over the slow and tactful crawl.

5 Volpat Trencher

Deathloop Adjusting The Trinkets On The Volpat Trencher

Players will remember first getting their hands on a shotgun in Halo. With the right playstyle, it's one shot, one kill. The Volpat Trencher feels the exact same way, packing an incredible punch at close quarters.

The magazine is substantial, making it so players can dispense with an opposing Julianna or any other boss with a single mag. The range and reload time are also surprisingly great when compared to other shotguns and are further enhanced by equipping the best trinkets.

4 Tribunàl

Deathloop Adjusting The Trinkets On The Tribunal

This must be made clear: If this were a single-player game, the Tribunàl would be the best weapon, and the gap between it and second place would not be close.

Despite being one of the worst dual-wielding options, this gun is in almost every veteran's inventory. The rate of fire and magazine size are both commendable, but these aren't the reason it gets used the way it does. It's the stealth aspect that makes the game one of the best Spy Espionage games of all time.

While many guns will have a silencer modification, none of them have the range or the damage that the Tribunàl has. When something needs to quietly be put down from a distance, this is the way to go. Add some trinkets that improve the range and it's genuinely unrivaled. Unless an invader shows up, there are very few reasons to use any other gun.

3 MG-1 'Pepper Mill'

Deathloop Adjusting The Trinkets On The MG-1 Pepper Mill

There is a reason that sniper rifles aren't generally given automatic abilities in video games. With huge damage and deadly accuracy, making the firing rate too high is an advantage without equal. Yet the MG-1 'Pepper Mill' does exactly all of these things.

When shooting at enemies from rooftops, a single burst through the scope will kill most enemies. The exception to this rule is Colt/Julianna or a Visionary boss, but this is when the automatic feature comes into play. If players want to only use one gun for the entire game, this is the one to use due to its relevance in both single-player and multiplayer.

2 Heritage Gun

Deathloop Adjusting The Trinkets On The Heritage Gun

The big issue with shotguns is controlling the burst. When used at close range, players will want a really wide spread. When getting a free shot or with a bit of range, they'll want a single slug. The Heritage Gun allows players to choose either kind of fire.

Other than that, it has all of the other advantages of the Volpat Trencher, already an incredible weapon, except even more so, with an extended magazine and greater force and range. Get it infused to make sure this Groundhog Day-style game starts out with this weapon each time.

1 Limp-10

Deathloop Adjusting The Trinkets On The Limp-10

On its own, it's understandable why some players might debate the role of the Limp-10 at the top of this list. The damage is unquestionable, but other guns fulfill the same role with greater single-fire bursts.

The trick is that players can dual-wield Limp-10s and become a monster. Those who have been playing since the game's release know that the meta for either a Colt or a Julianna against each other is two of these babies. Having one submachine gun apply a slow while the other one deals damage over time will kill an opposing Colt/Julianna faster than any other gun combination on this list. When finding a Limp-10 with these inherent debuffs, infuse this with Colt early on.

Deathloop is available now for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
