The MCU wouldn't be what it is today without the incredibly talented group of actors who breathe new life into beloved comic book characters on screen. Given the success of the franchise, it's no surprise that many Marvel actors have gone on to achieve great things through their other work.
Plenty of Marvel fan favorites like Florence Pugh and Robert Downey Jr. have earned nominations in the past, and will surely secure their well-deserved win sometime in the future. For now, here's every MCU star that's won an Oscar thus far.
Anthony Hopkins
Anthony Hopkins is one of the few MCU actors to have earned multiple Oscars, both of which were for best actor. Marvel fans know him as Odin, but Hopkins was given his Academy Awards for his performance in Silence of the Lambs and for his role in The Father.
Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie finally joined the Marvel universe as Thena when Eternals was released in 2021. Jolie won her Oscar for best supporting actress for her work in Girl, Interrupted.
Ben Kingsley
The return of Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery in Shang-Chi was something Marvel fans weren’t expecting after Iron Man 3. Kingsley won an Oscar for best actor after his first-ever leading role in Gandhi.
Benicio Del Toro
Benicio del Toro plays Taneleer Tivan in the MCU, but the character is better known as The Collector. Del Toro won an Academy Award for best supporting actor in the 2001 movie Traffic.
Brie Larson
Marvel’s very own Brie Larson won her Oscar for best actress in the 2016 film Room. She’ll be returning as Captain Marvel quite soon, in the Phase 5 film The Marvels.
Cate Blanchett
Cate Blanchett appeared as Thor’s secret sister Hela in 2016, and has led an incredibly successful career. She won an Oscar for best actress after her role in Blue Jasmine and a second Academy Award for best supporting actress for The Aviator.
Christian Bale
Christian Bale recently played Gorr the God Butcher in Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder and won an Oscar for best supporting actor for The Fighter.
Daniel Kaluuya
Daniel Kaluuya won an Oscar for best supporting actor due to his role in Judas and the Black Messiah. He first appeared in the MCU as W’Kabi in Black Panther.
F. Murray Abraham
F. Murray Abraham voiced the god Khonshu in Marvel’s Moon Knight and won an Oscar for best actor in Amadeus.
Forest Whitaker
Forest Whitaker won an Oscar for best actor for his work in The Last King of Scotland. He made his MCU debut in Black Panther as Zuri.
Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwyneth Paltrow made her MCU debut as Pepper Potts alongside Robert Downey Jr. in Marvel’s first Iron Man movie. She won an Oscar for best actress before joining the franchise, thanks to her role in Shakespeare in Love.
Jeff Bridges
One of the MCU’s very first villains, Jeff Bridges played Obadiah Stane in the 2008 Iron Man film. He won an Academy Award for best actor in Crazy Heart.
J.K. Simmons
J.K. Simmons returned as the Spider-Man-hating J. Jonah Jameson first in a post-credit cameo in Spider-Man: Far From Home, and then again in Spider-Man: No Way Home. He previously won an Oscar for best supporting actor in Whiplash.
Jamie Foxx
Jamie Foxx officially became part of the MCU when his character Electro returned in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Foxx won an Academy Award for best actor for his starring role in Ray.
Lupita Nyong'o
Lupita Nyong’o is one of the most talented stars the MCU has ever had, and she’ll be returning as Nakia in Wakanda Forever. Nyong’o won an Oscar for best supporting actress because of her work in the iconic 12 Years A Slave movie.
Michael Douglas
Michael Douglas won his first Oscar for best producer, because of the work he did for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. He later earned a second Oscar for best actor due to his Wall Street performance. Currently, he plays Hank Pym in the MCU.
Marisa Tomei
Marisa Tomei won her Oscar for best supporting actress in My Cousin Vinny. She played the beloved Aunt May in Marvel’s Spider-Man movies and broke fans hearts when her character met their end in No Way Home.
Mahershala Ali
Mahershala Ali played Blade in Marvel’s Luke Cage, and won two Oscars for best supporting actor for his work in Moonlight and Greenbook.
Natalie Portman
Natalie Portman has had an incredibly prolific career, starring in franchises like Star Wars and playing Jane Foster in the MCU. Given her impressive acting resume, it’s no surprise she took home an Oscar for best actress, thanks to her performance in Black Swan.
Robert Redford
Robert Redford played the unforgiving Hydra leader Alexander Pierce in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and has won 2 Academy Awards during his career. The first was for best director for Ordinary People and the other was an Honorary Oscar in 2002.
Russell Crowe
Russell Crowe recently played Zeus in Thor: Love and Thunder and will likely be returning sometime in the future. Crowe won an Oscar for best actor in Gladiator.
Rachel Weisz
Rachel Weisz played Natasha Romanoff’s adoptive mother, Melina Vostokoff, in the MCU’s Black Widow movie. Weisz won an Oscar for best supporting actress in The Constant Gardener.
Sam Rockwell
Sam Rockwell played Justin Hammer in Marvel’s Iron Man 2. Although this particular MCU movie isn’t one of the franchise’s best, Rockwell won an Academy Award for best supporting actor, due to his role in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
Tommy Lee Jones
Tommy Lee Jones popped up in the MCU during Phase 1, where he played Captain America’s commanding officer Colonel Chester Phillips. Jones won an Oscar for best supporting actor because of his work in The Fugitive.
Tilda Swinton
Tilda Swinton played the Ancient One in Marvel’s first Doctor Strange movie, and won her Oscar for best supporting actress for her work in Michael Clayton.
Taika Waititi
Taika Waititi won an Academy Award for best original screenplay for the 2019 film Jojo Rabbit and currently plays Korg in the MCU.
William Hurt
William Hurt was a notable antagonist throughout many of Marvel’s previous projects, in his role as Thaddeus Ross. He won an Oscar for best actor in the 1985 movie Kiss of the Spider Woman.
