Resident Evil 8, or Resident Evil: Village, has been in development for several years, with Capcom recently releasing a trailer to give some context for the next project. Even more recently there was a leak from a source who had a go at Capcom's game test event of Resident Evil 8. This leak gave everyone more insight into the direction that Capcom wants to go with the newest Resident Evil game and has also given info on the game's enemies.

For those who aren't aware, Resident Evil 8 is supposed to take place several years after the events of Resident Evil 7. The story is supposed to follow Ethan, the protagonist from Resident Evil 7, to Europe as he attempts to track down Chris Redfield, the protagonist of several Resident Evil games. There is not much else known about the main story, but the leaks have confirmed a couple of things about RE 8 and its enemy composition.

Resident Evil 8: Werewolves

xbox series x horror games

As any viewer of the Resident Evil 8 official trailer can tell, werewolves are finally making their debut on the Resident Evil scene. A series so invariably associated with zombies has finally added a different kind of monster to its roster, at least in a main game as werewolves have appeared in comics before. According to the trailer, the werewolves will be hunting Ethan in packs and will exhibit the appropriate behavior. This can be seen in the trailer when a couple of werewolves distract the old man by running past the windows while one hides above the ceiling waiting for the moment to pull him up and finish him off. The recent leaks unfortunately did not elaborate on the werewolf enemy design because they were not a part of the demo.

Resident Evil 8: Zombies?

According to a leak concerning a Resident Evil 8 game test published back in late July, a type of humanoid enemy that is clearly not a werewolf has been been identified. Please note that this leak is credible enough to be included on the list even though it is not 100% confirmed.

The description of the humanoid enemies says that they have "pale, almost rotten skin, with tattoos on their foreheads and hands." They speak in tongues and are armed with various medieval melee weapons, and some are even unarmed and will simply lunge at Ethan to bite him or throw him to the ground. Because they can still speak, it's fair to imagine that these enemies function more like the Las Plagas villagers from RE 4 than the generic T-virus zombies the franchise is known for. Based on what is known about the next enemy in this list, it may even be fair to assume that these humanoids are actually thralls of some kind.

Resident Evil 8: Witches

The leak not only mentioned the regular enemies found in the game test, but even brought up a boss character. Apparently, the Resident Evil 8 game demo took place inside the lavish mansion shown briefly in the trailer and that mansion is home to a witch. This witch is referred to by characters as Olga and her abilities bear a striking resemblance to the powers that Marguerite Baker possessed in Resident Evil 7.

If the player encounters Olga, she will expel swarms of insects to attack Ethan and the only way to fight back is to use a torch to ward them off. Olga initiates her true boss fight by transforming into an insect-like creature which the player must fight while also defending from the swarms of insects being launched from her body. Even after being defeated, Olga releases all of her insects in her death throes which Ethan must hunt down to finish her off. Olga is not the only witch mentioned in game, but this information shows that witches are going to be reserved for boss fights.

Looking at all this information, there is no doubt that Resident Evil 8 will be a palette cleanser for fans coming off of the RE 2 and RE 3 remakes. Hopefully in the coming months, more trailers and information will be available to give fans a better picture of what lies in Resident Evil 8.

Resident Evil 8 is in development for the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
