A LEGO build-off is taking place between sci-fi heavyweights EVE Online and Star Citizen where the games' communities will be building ships belonging to the opposite game. The Battle of the Bricks competition is being held to raise money for the Extra Life charity which works closely with children's hospitals on behalf of the gaming community.EVE Online and Star Citizen have enjoyed a friendly rivalry over the years as both games compete for the attention of hardcore sci-fi gamers. Although both titles feature vastly different gameplay styles, their respective sci-fi settings, MMO scale, and mechanical depth attract similar types of players. Many EVE Online and Star Citizen fans have dabbled with both games which share a reputation for being highly immersive "second lives" for their players. While Star Citizen continues to grow thanks to its massive crowdfunding resources, 19-year-old EVE Online has retained a loyal player base with a strong sense of community.RELATED: Major EVE Online Update Makes Sweeping ChangesThe LEGO build-off between EVE Online and Star Citizen began with a tweet from Star Citizen back in December showcasing a LEGO build of a Drake Vulture ship. EVE Online responded "SC, Can I bring a Venture?" poking fun at the undeniable similarity between the two ship designs. This sparked a full-blown competition between the two games, The Battle of the Bricks. The communities from both games created digital designs for LEGO builds of the opposing game's ships which are going to be assembled live during the event's Twitch stream.

The Battle of the Bricks is doubling as a charity event aimed at raising money for Extra Life. Extra Life has been a popular charity for the gaming community since its 2008 inception with an emphasis on supporting children's hospitals. Extra Life hosts marathon events where gamers play for 24 hours, raising money for each hour spent playing. Extra Life's first year saw $120,000 in donations, growing to an impressive $14 million in donations in 2019. Donations can be given to Extra Life during the Battle of the Bricks stream or beforehand by visiting the Tiltify page set up specifically for the event.

The Battle of the Bricks finals will be live streamed on Star Citizen's Twitch page at 17:00 UTC July 22. The EVE Online team will be assembling Star Citizen ships while the Star Citizen team will be building the EVE designs. The event should be an excellent opportunity to showcase each community's creativity along with the respective games' stellar ship designs all while raising money for a worthwhile cause.
