With the gaming industry growing non-stop for the past decade, new people are introduced to video games each year, but not Kumail Nanjiani because the Eternals star is apparently hanging on a 10-year old Xbox 360 controller as part of his essential items to prove his gamer credentials.

Although Eternals has a star-studded cast to make up the group’s numerous lineup and Salma Hayek’s Ajak plays the team leader in the movie, Nanjiani has been one of the few constantly making waves with even a new Eternals-inspired car ad to his name. Back when he was first cast a Kingo, Nanjiani the actor’s impressive physical transformation drew plenty of headlines, however, it turns out one thing he can’t live without is not a pair of dumbbells but rather his beloved Xbox.

The actor recently sat down with GQ for a game of "10 Things Kumail Nanjiani Can't Live Without", where he goes through his most beloved bag items, and amount them his Gears of War 3 Xbox 360 controller is definitely quite the eye-catcher. Nanjiani defines himself as an avid gamer, especially when it comes to Halo 3 where he was ranked at an impressive 48; nowadays though, he says playing Mass Effect all over again is on the top of his gaming priorities because he doesn't care much for games with a current-day setting.

As for the rest of Nanjiani’s essentials, he includes his MacBook laptop, a notebook and pen, chocolate obleas, a facemask, high-quality instant coffee, and his phone, though the latter is only for meditation purposes. One of the most puzzling things he carries around is an extra pair of socks, not because the actor has smelly feet or anything (he’s very inclined in making that clear) but because he feels it makes him feel extra fresh throughout a long day.

Nevertheless, the most puzzling thing featured in this segment is definitely Nanjiani’s Xbox controller. For those unaware, this special edition controller came out in 2011 and 360 controllers are not exactly compatible with the Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S, which makes it even more puzzling when Nanjiani says he always has his Xbox inside his airplane carry-on.

Sure, the Xbox 360 controller is still a good controller on PC, yet does this mean Nanjiani is lugging around an Xbox 360 all the time to play Halo 3 instead of the very convenient Xbox Series S? Did the people at GQ lend him an old extra controller prop because he forgot his? Is Nanjiani playing Mass Effect Legendary Edition or using original hardware? Does he even have Game Pass? There are simply far too many questions left unanswered by the Eternals star. At least Shang-Chi swears by the Xbox Elite Controller.
