Briefly appearing in the first of the two end-credits scenes in Eternals, Harry Styles surprised many fans when he was revealed to be playing the character Eros / Starfox, also known as Thanos' brother. Now, Styles has spoken about his role in Chloé Zhao's Eternals and how grateful he is to the join the MCU.

Eternals concluded with members like Sersi (Gemma Chan) being taken to face the judgment of the Celestials for ultimately deciding to kill the newborn celestial, Tiamut, while also ending the emergence on Earth. In the first post-credits scene, the teleporting Pip the Troll, played by comedian Patton Oswalt, introduces Eros to Thena (Angelina Jolie), Druig (Barry Keoghan), and Makkari (Lauren Ridloff). Eros then states, "Your friends are in big trouble. And we know where to find them."

The unexpected scene sets up an interesting role for Styles, one that could be intertwined with many other MCU stories. But as of now, it appears Styles is just happy to have the opportunity to get to join this thrilling ongoing universe. "I'm only in right at the very end. But who didn't grow up wanting to be a superhero, you know? It was a great experience, and I'm so grateful to have gotten to work with Chloé," Styles told Dazed in a recent interview.

Eros-Marvel-Eternals

This comes shortly after Zhao revealed she handpicked Styles to play Eros and how she believed he seemed like a great fit to portray a member of the Eternals who has the ability to control emotions and the power of persuasion. "Harry as Eros was very much a package deal for me," said Zhao to Deadline. "I pitched the idea of Pip the Troll and Eros to Kevin [Feige, Marvel Studios president] a while back. I love the idea of exploring an Eternal who is beyond Titan and who may have influenced Thanos throughout the years the same way [the] Eternals influenced us, earthlings. It wasn't like I suggested Eros, and let's go find actors. I kept tabs on Harry since Dunkirk, I thought he was very interesting."

Dunkirk is the war epic directed by Christopher Nolan that is based on the historic Dunkirk evacuation. The surprise casting of Styles in that film initially caught many off guard but would garner much attention once the film was released. The pop star wouldn't stop there, though. He will star opposite Florence Pugh, Gemma Chan, and Chris Pine in Olivia Wilde's upcoming psychological thriller Don't Worry Darling, while also being set to lead the upcoming My Policeman.

It'll be interesting to see how much Styles' character is involved moving forward in the MCU, but judging by Zhao's enthusiasm for the actor and the character, he surely will have plenty of screen time. Eternals centers on an immortal alien race that was created by the Celestials and has been living secretly on Earth for thousands of years. They finally have to come together to stop their evil counterparts known as the Deviants. The cast also features Richard Madden as Ikaris, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Lia McHugh as Sprite, and Harish Patel as Karun.

Eternals is now playing exclusively in theatres.
