Marvel Studios’ Eternals was released amid a lot of hype and the studio is already referring to it as the biggest movie of the year. Despite the grand opening, several fans still seem to have a lot of questions about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and how the newly introduced heroes will impact it. In a newly released featurette, the cast and director Chloe Zhao answered some of the fans’ burning questions.

From what power the Eternals cast members would like to have in real life to their experience of working on an MCU project, fans got a chance to know them a little bit better. The featurette includes Eternals director Zhao, actors Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, Kit Harington, Kumail Nanjiani, Don Lee, Lia McHugh, and Lauren Ridloff. Due to the ongoing pandemic, some of the actors are evidently answering the questions from their respective homes, which makes the featurette quite relatable and relevant.

The most fun that the actors seem to have is when asked to describe their characters using three emojis. “God, I hate emojis,” Harington, who plays Dane Whitman in Eternals, is heard saying immediately. He can only think of the generic smiling emoji, which fans will know is not enough to describe his mysterious character. McHugh, Hayek, Nanjiani, and Ridloff have more appropriate responses to describe their respective characters in a nutshell.

To prepare for her role, Jolie took ballet lessons and even learned to use different weapons. During the filming, the award-winning actress wasn’t actually holding the weapons, as they were added in the post-production process. In the Eternals featurette, Jolie explains that as a “great female warrior,” she believed that her character Thena “should fight like a female and should have all the grace and femininity.” Ballet, in her opinion, is very challenging, and she wanted to set herself up for that challenge and make her representation of the character more authentic.

Eternals has introduced 10 new heroes into the MCU, which already has a large array of characters. But, what stands out for this film, in particular, is that it has one of the most diverse casts in MCU history. Ridloff, who has been receiving a lot of praise for her work as a deaf actress, had spoken about the challenges she faced while filming Eternals in past interviews. However, in the featurette, she talks about the joy she felt when she first saw the film on the big screen. “I was sobbing,” she says.

Eternals has been receiving mixed reviews from critics ever since it premiered. However, considering the charm of its cast, it's not hard to see why those who love the film reached their own conclusion.

Eternals is now playing in theatres.
