Escape from Tarkov is currently riding out a surge of popularity, largely due to the game becoming favored by several popular Twitch streamers. This surge has resulted in a ton of new players coming to Escape from Tarkov for the first time. It's also led to some frustrations from many older players. The economy in Escape from Tarkov has reached a breaking point for many players, leading to a wave of requests for a server reset. Escape from Tarkov's devs are in no hurry though, it seems.

In a response made on Escape from Tarkov's official forums, Battlestate Games confirmed that a server reset is planned. It just isn't planned for anytime soon. "Wipe will not be in the next couple of months," was Battlestate Games' only word on the matter. It's possible that player response could drive Battlestate to change their planned reset. For now, however, the reset won't be happening any time soon.

Players are already speculating about when Escape from Tarkov's next server reset will be, since Battlestate hasn't provided an official date. Many expect it to be mid-year or later, which would line up with Escape from Tarkov's next major update planned for Escape from Tarkov. Given major updates often shake up the meta significantly, server resets are helpful in evaluating the state of the game regarding balance and economy. That doesn't mean Battlestate can't do a reset earlier, of course.

The argument for a reset comes down to an imbalance in the economy in the current game. There are a lot of extremely wealthy, so to speak, players and there are players who have little to nothing. The result is a game state that doesn't have an appropriate risk and reward balance. The wealthy Escape from Tarkov players can afford any losses and the poor players just have to focus on taking gear from the wealthy players. The counter-argument is that this is a fun, fast, and simple way to play Escape from Tarkov.

For now, the opposition to a server reset for Escape for Tarkov is more persuasive. While yes, the state of Escape from Tarkov doesn't necessarily fit the idea of how the game should play, that doesn't matter when so many players are enjoying it. Escape from Tarkov has a good thing going right now. It would be a mistake to risk that. It makes more sense to test a server reset when it's alongside something exciting like a major content patch. In the meantime, players can hopefully have some fun with the game.
