It's been quite some time since we've heard much about Disney Interactive's Wii exclusive, Epic Mickey.  Now, maybe we know why.

When Epic Mickey gameplay screens were first revealed, fans were outspoken about the visual simplicity of the game, versus the lush, dark concept art originally created for the title.  Judge for yourself.

In response to the criticism, the developers at Disney Interactive Studios have apparently gone back in to craft a look that more closely reflects the original concept art.  The graphically updated version of Epic Mickey will likely be unveiled at E3 2010.

The original Epic Mickey screenshots led many to question whether the Wii was powerful enough to properly realize the look of the game.  A number of gamers expressed their hopes that Epic Mickey would eventually come to Xbox 360 and PS3.

But can the look of the game really be blamed on the Wii?  After all, Super Mario Galaxy 2 looks fantastic. Perhaps the game's developers, led by industry veteran Warren Spector, were simply more focused on gameplay than visuals.  In any case, we should know soon enough.  E3 2010 begins June 15th.

Are any of you Ranters anticipating Epic Mickey?  Do you think the game's visuals can match the look of the concept art?

Epic Mickey is currently expected to release late this year, exclusively on the Nintendo Wii.
