It's no major secret to anyone that Fortnite is a revenue juggernaut in the game industry, with the wildly successful multiplayer sandbox survival title absolutely raking in money across its various platforms. For instance, $2 million is being generated on mobile microtransactions per day, while its PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One counterparts bring in huge profits as well. With this being the situation, it has now been revealed that the game's creator, Epic Games, is currently worth between $5 billion and $8 billion thanks to the success of the online game.

This much was been confirmed by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, with the wealth ranking index's evaluation of Epic Games' worth fueled not only by Fortnite, but also due to the fact that Chinese company Tencent Holdings Ltd. purchased a major portion of the company several years ago. As it so happens, Tencent bought 40 percent of Epic in 2012 for $330 million when the entire company was worth $825 million, which means that Epic has gained up to seven billion dollars in value in about six years.

For those who have been out of the loop when it comes to gaming trends, it's no wonder why Fortnite has managed to help Epic Games become one of the highest valued companies on the market to date, as the free-to-play Battle Royale portion has provided the title with an incredibly wide-reaching demographic. For example, not only is the game popular with everyday kids and adults, but also world class athletes such as France playmaker Antoine Griezmann are into Fortnite, and he went so far as to prove it with his World Cup final goal celebration dance.

Taking all of this into account, it doesn't seem as if the battle royale craze is set to slow down any time soon, and if that's the case, then Epic Games will surely be considered by many to be the king of the hill. Of course, Fortnite will certainly face stiff competition from here on out, especially with PUBG growing in popularity, and with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 even adding its own battle royale mode called Blackout. However, only time will tell which title is left standing once the trend dies down.

Fortnite is available now for iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with an Android release date set for sometime in summer 2018.
