Epic Games recently revealed that it has banned 'thousands' of Fortnite cheaters. The developer also vowed to continue tackling the problem and said that it would employ 'every measure' to fight back against those who cheat in its game.

Epic has stayed true to its word, taking its most significant action against Fortnite cheaters yet. The developer has filed lawsuits in a North Carolina federal court against two alleged cheaters. Mr. Broom and Mr. Vraspir are accused of violating the Fortnite terms of service as well as the game's End User License Agreement (EULA) by changing the game's code, thus violating Epic's copyright.

The two men are associated with a website called AddictedCheats.net, which provides cheats for Fortnite. Broom and Vraspir are said to have developed (or are developing) cheats for the game. Broom, who has already been banned from Fortnite once, has publicly stated that he wants to create "chaos and disorder" within the game, while Vraspir has been banned nine times and continues to make new accounts to play it.

Epic's complaints explain that "Defendant uses cheats in a deliberate attempt to destroy the integrity of, and otherwise wreak havoc in, the Fortnite game. As Defendant intends, this often ruins the game for the other players, and for the many people who watch 'streamers'." If its lawsuits are successful, then Broom and Vraspir face statutory damages of up to $150,000 for copyright infringement, though the final fine could be higher as Epic's complaints include additional claims such as breach of contract.

This is not the first time that a video game company has filed a lawsuit in an effort to get people to stop misusing its creation. Earlier this year, Blizzard won $8 million in a lawsuit against Overwatch cheat makers. Although there is no data available on how many cheat makers chose to shut up shop after Blizzard won, it's certainly enough to make people think twice about getting involved in cheat development. Epic Games will be hoping that successful lawsuits here will work as a deterrent for Fortnite cheaters too.

Clamping down on cheaters is of pressing importance to the company now as Fortnite has millions of players - players who don't want their fun to be ruined by people using aimbots and the like. The game is set to grow even further and Epic wants to do something before the cheating gets out of hand and it's too late to put a stop to it.

Fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
