[UPDATE: Although later than normal, Epic Games has confirmed its free games for March 23. Users will be able to claim Chess Ultra and a starter pack for World of Warships on the Epic Games Store at that time. The original story follows.]

The Epic Games Store has released its previously announced free game, Warhammer 40,000: Gladius - Relics of War. Traditionally, a release is partnered with a new reveal, but EGS appears to be breaking from tradition here. While fans of Warhammer games have plenty of reason to be excited, those who would pass and check out something next week are left in the dark.

Warhammer 40,000: Gladius - Relics of War is a turn-based 4X strategy game set within the popular franchise. Players will lead one of four factions (Space Marines, Astra Militarum, Orks, and Necrons) in the battle for dominance over the planet's resources. Fitting Epic Games Store's typical reveal and release pattern, it will be available until March 23 at which time it will be replaced. However, fans do not know what will replace it.

Sometimes, the EGS is a few minutes late adding a new game to the line-up, but it usually operates like clockwork. With the site updating, quite a bit of time passing, and no new game listed, it seems safe to say that the Epic Games Store isn't quite confirming anything for March 23. There are a few possible reasons why, but nothing hinting at doomsday for the service.

In the past, the company has added another game to the line-up, breaking from its typical Epic Games Store pattern. That usually involves one game being confirmed and another added, sometimes surprisingly on the day of release. So it's certainly new territory for the company, but it could be a mystery game with no fanfare too. It's hard to say what will happen next Thursday, aside from Warhammer departing the service.

While odd, this doesn't mean anything as extreme as the free games ending. It should be noted that Epic Games recently reaffirmed its dedication to continuing these releases throughout the year, if there were any questions. Without a doubt, the free games given away on the Epic Games Store every week do a lot to bring in old fans, new fans, and gamers who primarily use something else. It stands to reason that it will continue its giveaways, including Epic Games Store's mystery game promotions, throughout this year and beyond.
