July is here, meaning fans can expect a litany of new free titles across a number of services like PS Plus Premium, Xbox Game Pass, and Epic Games Store. The latter has already revealed two free games users can access on July 7, following its typical release and reveal pattern every Thursday.

Epic Games Store users can claim three games right now, namely Geneforge 1: Mutagen, Hood: Outlaws and Legends, and Iratus: Lord of the Dead, and they will be replaced by Ancient Enemy and Killing Floor 2 on Thursday. Once they release, players will have until the following Thursday at 10 am CT to claim them, at which time the Epic Games Store free games for July 14 will also be revealed. For those curious about Ancient Enemy and Killing Floor 2, however, here’s what they need to know.

Epic Games Store Free Game for July 7 – Ancient Enemy

ancient enemy

Ancient Enemy embraces its niche completely, and for fans of card games, it’s likely to be an indie gem. It’s a strategy role-playing card game, where its tactics could be described as a type of Solitaire battler. Each duel is set in a world where evil has already won, with the player drawing power from life, soul, and landscapes of Earth to battle against evil, distorted monsters with a variety of spells and abilities. The story has been described as folkloric and embodies a hero’s tale, where they must battle all the way up to the evil citadel and defeat their evil enemy.

Fans of Darkest Dungeon and Slay the Spire may find something here they particularly enjoy, as Ancient Enemy’s developers cite them as inspiration. They can also challenge themselves in a similar vein, pushing it all the way up through nightmare difficulty.

Epic Games Store Free Game for July 7 – Killing Floor 2

Killing Floor 2 and Ancient Enemy don’t have much in common in terms of gameplay, but they do in terms of theme. Ancient Enemy is set after the collapse of society in a destroyed world; Killing Floor 2 is racing to get there. The latter’s destruction follows a failed experiment outbreak, where specimen clones are everywhere and the people of Europe are forced to survive. However, players step into the shoes of those trying to fight back—as Killing Floor 2 players will face clone outbreaks as its core gameplay loop.

Killing Floor 2 is an action shooter with tons of gore thanks to a propriety blood system (limb from limb is the term that comes to mind), up to a 6-player co-op, a 12-player PvP mode, fantastic and unique enemies and weapons, and more. The melee is just as brutal as its fore, and players are able to maximize their characters with a huge perk system.

Overall, for anyone looking for something bloody and violent, Killing Floor 2 offers that in spades. For those who enjoy post-apocalyptic or apocalyptic scenarios, then it should be a good week on the Epic Games Store.

Epic Games Store users get a handful of free games every month.
