Every week, Epic Games Store users are able to claim new free games, and unlike similar services on other platforms, they don't even have to be subscribed to anything. The only requirement to claim the Epic Games Store free games each week is to have the Epic Games Store launcher downloaded. And so now pretty much anyone with a PC can sign in and claim two free titles from now until September 16 at 10:00am CT, including a surprise bonus game.

Until today, Epic Games Store users only expected Sheltered to be free, but Nioh: The Complete Edition is also available as a surprise bonus game. Since the vast majority of Epic Games Store free games are relatively low profile indie titles, Nioh: The Complete Edition stands out as being one of the more notable titles that have been made free on the service this year. It's unclear why its inclusion wasn't announced in advance, but it does make for a nice surprise.

While Sheltered and Nioh: The Complete Edition are the current free games on the Epic Games Store, fans also know what they can expect from next week's offerings. As usual, the new batch of Epic Games Store free games has come with the announcement of next week's titles, and they include a game that was previously promised for the service.

From September 16 to September 23, Epic Games Store users can look forward to adding Speed Brawl and Tharsis to their collections. Speed Brawl was previously promised as an Epic Games Store free game about a month ago, but it was pulled at the last minute due to unclarified technical issues. Now anyone that was disappointed when Speed Brawl was removed will finally be able to check out the game as an Epic Games Store freebie.

For those wondering what Speed Brawl actually is, it's described as a 2D combat racing game. Tharsis, meanwhile, is a turn-based strategy game set in space that apparently features "cannibalism," according to its Epic Games Store listing, anyway. Tharsis similarly earned somewhat mixed reviews, but with both games being available completely free of charge, it's unlikely that the Epic Games Store free offerings will ever face the same kind of scrutiny that PS Plus and Xbox Games with Gold sometimes do.

Once Speed Brawl and Tharsis join the Epic Games Store free games lineup, fans can expect the next batch of free games to be announced. Until then, they can claim Nioh: The Complete Edition and Sheltered.
