The Epic Games Store has updated its selection of free games to include a surprise horror game while also confirming the free games that users will be able to claim come October 20. Epic Games Store users can log in to the store now to grab two more games for their digital libraries and take note of what's to come later this month.

When the latest Epic Games Store free games were first announced, the only title mentioned was ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove. However, the Epic Games Store has surprised users with the addition of a horror game to go along with ToeJam & Earl. Darkwood is a top-down survival horror game where players scavenge for resources during the day and repel horrific monstrosities at night. Darkwood reviews were mostly positive at the time of its release, so it should make for a solid horror addition to the EGS free games lineup.

Besides adding Darkwood and ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove as the new free games, the Epic Games Store has also clued fans in on what they can expect from next week's offerings. From October 20 to October 27, Epic Games Store users will be able to claim Evoland Legendary Edition and Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition for their collections.

Epic Games Store Free Games for October 2022 List

  • Darkwood (October 13 - October 20)
  • ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove (October 13 - October 20)
  • Evoland Legendary Edition (October 20 - October 27)
  • Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition (October 20 - October 27)

Evoland Legendary Edition is an RPG collection that combines the first two Evoland games into a single package. Evoland earned mixed reviews at the time of its release, but the games were praised for their relatively short length compared to most games in the genre, which can sometimes be over-sized and padded with filler.

Fallout 3, meanwhile, really needs no introduction. The award-winning, critically-acclaimed action-RPG from Bethesda breathed new life into the post-apocalyptic franchise. Fallout 3 is generally considered to be one of the best video games of all time, and so even though it's over a decade old at this point, its inclusion as a free Epic Games Store game should still please users of the service. Better yet, the version of Fallout 3 that's being made free is the Game of the Year Edition, meaning it comes with all of the game's post-launch expansion packs.
