The game has some roguelike elements in that if a Darkest Dungeon hero dies while exploring dungeons, they are gone forever. Sticking with the roguelike elements, Darkest Dungeon's titular dungeons are procedurally-generated.
Darkest Dungeon earned quite a bit of acclaim when it initially launched, with critics impressed by the dark aesthetic, roguelike elements, and challenging gameplay. Its critical success translated to commercial success, and so fans can look forward to a sequel coming sooner rather than later. At the time of this writing, the Darkest Dungeon sequel is believed to be launching at some point in 2021.
