The Epic Games Store releases new free games every Thursday, often giving users a week's notice as to what they can expect from the next set of free games. There have been times in the past when Epic Games Store has changed it promised free games for whatever reason, and it seems the new free games for August 5 can be added to that list. While A Plague Tale: Innocence is free on the Epic Games Store as previously announced, the other free game that was announced is not currently available for EGS users.

A Plague Tale: Innocence was supposed to be joined by Speed Brawl as the free Epic Games Store games for August 5 to August 12, but Speed Brawl is not currently free for whatever reason. In its place is Minit, a quirky adventure game that's gimmick is that it's meant to be played 1 minute at a time. Minit earned mostly positive reviews at the time of its release, higher than Speed Brawl, so it seems Epic Games Store users don't have to be disappointed with the free game offerings.

Both A Plague Tale: Innocence and Minit will be free on the Epic Games Store from now until Thursday, August 12 at 10:00am CT. And while the Epic Games Store usually gives away two free games in any given week, next week is going to be an exception to that rule, as users will only have one free game to claim from August 12 to August 19.

The Epic Games Store free game for August 12 is Rebel GalaxyRebel Galaxy is an open world space exploration game where players travel the galaxy in a spaceship. It earned mixed reviews when it first launched in 2016, but it does offer quite a bit of playtime. With it being the next Epic Games Store free game, anyone interested can check it out without having to make any kind of financial commitment, so that may mitigate its mixed review scores.

While the Epic Games Store usually gives away two free games each week, there have been other times in the past when it's only offered one free game from one week to the next. As some may recall, one of the free Epic Games Store games for July 2021, The Spectrum Retreat, was a solo free game offering as well.

Usually when the Epic Games Store has given away one free game at a time, its during one of its mystery game promotions. The Epic Games Store mystery game promotions have been used to promote sales and other events on the launcher, and due to their popularity, it's a safe bet that the mystery games will make a comeback at some point down the line.
