Despite many believing Epic’s generous stint handing out free games would come to an end after the 12 days of games Christmas special, it appears the company doesn’t plan on stopping just yet. Moving into 2020, it is continuing to hand out free games to players who visit the storefront, including a brand-new game that’s dropping today.

Revealed by Epic’s Twitter account, it appears Sundered: Eldritch Edition is the newest title in Epic’s freebie lineup. The Metroidvania hack and slash features a unique hand-drawn art style, chaotic battles, and even local co-op, with players teaming up to battle enemies together.

When it released back in 2017, Sundered was met with mixed to positive reviews, with the game currently sitting at a generally favorable 74 on Metacritic. Critics praised its beautiful visuals, addictive hack and slash gameplay, and incredibly rewarding exploration, while citing its slow-pace and repetitive nature as downsides to the experience. Regardless, fans can no doubt rely on it for a good time, especially as there’s no asking price to jump in and play. The Eldritch Edition also comes with a handful of new areas, the aforementioned addition of co-op, and a brand-new boss to fight. It’s clear there’s a lot of content available in the game, which makes it a steal to pick up for free.

Alongside this news, Epic has shown off the next title that’ll be available through its free games system. That title is Horace: an adorable, comedic platformer centered around a robot searching for the meaning of life, the universe, and everything. It has already seen a release on Steam mid last year, where it received a slate of brilliant reviews from both players and critics alike. It appears the game’s debut on Epic on January 16 will see it become free for a limited time, meaning players waiting for the game to hit the storefront will be rewarded for their patience.

Sundered and Horace are another two examples of Epic’s incredibly popular decision to release a number of free games to its players to keep forever. With major titles like Celeste, Yooka Laylee And The Impossible Lair, and the entire Batman Arkham Trilogy being given to players over the last year, it seems Epic isn't pulling any punches in regards to what games it gifts its players. While it seems logical to imagine this slate of incredibly generous freebies won’t last forever, it appears Epic has no intention of putting the breaks on any time soon.

Sundered: Eldritch Edition is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
