It is day twelve of the Epic Games Store's 12 Days of Free Games promotion, and indeed players can now download yet another title through the digital storefront at no cost. For fans of horror, today's offering may be of particular interest, as the free game for December 30 is Hello Neighbor, a 2017 release developed by Dynamic Pixels and published by tinyBuild.

In Hello Neighbor, players are tasked with accessing a neighbor's basement after witnessing some seriously suspicious activity. This is done through exploration and puzzle solving, and players must take a stealth approach to avoid being captured by the menacing neighbor. If ultimately the player is unsuccessful at evading the neighbor, they will be ejected from the house and forced to begin their infiltration anew, but this time traps will await them on the paths that they have pursued previously.

While there was a great deal of excitement surrounding Hello Neighbor prior to its release, critical response to the title has been decidedly negative over the years. Indeed, the game is considered one of the worst Switch games, according to Metacritic, and it has not fared much better on any of its other release platforms either. That said, Hello Neighbor does have a following of fans, and many players will be happy to have the chance to try it out for free as part of the EGS's 12 Days of Free Games.

Players that do want to pickup Hello Neighbor at no cost will need to act fast, though, as the Epic Games Store's free game will change to a new title tomorrow morning. While some fans may have thought that Hello Neighbor would be the last game offered through Epic's promotion, considering that today is day twelve, another one is lined up for tomorrow, and a teaser image suggests that it will be the 2017 platformer Yooka-Laylee.

However, for players that do miss out on picking up Hello Neighbor for free, there is another option. Specifically, the Steam Winter Sale is discounting the game by 50% through January 2, which means that fans that may not see Epic's promotion in time still have the chance to download the title at a significant savings.

Hello Neighbor is available for PC, Xbox One, Switch, PS4, iOS, and Android.
