The Epic Games Store's 12 Days of Free Games is giving players the chance to download a free title everyday until January 1, 2020. Today, December 26, marks the eighth day of these festivities, and indeed players can now obtain another critically-acclaimed game at no cost through the EGS. Specifically, FTL: Faster Than Light is currently available as part of the Epic Games Store's 12 Days of Free Games, and it is a title that many players will certainly be interested in picking up.
For the uninitiated, FTL: Faster Than Light is a roguelike set in space that was developed by Subset Games and was released in 2012. While some have taken issue with FTL: Faster Than Light for its high level of difficulty, other fans consider it to be among the best space exploration video games, and now a new group of players will get to experience it for free thanks to the Epic Games Store's ongoing promotion.
That said, players that want to obtain FTL: Faster Than Light at no cost will need to act quickly, as it will no longer be available through the EGS's 12 Days of Free Games as of tomorrow morning. However, Steam's Winter Sale is discounting the game by 75% through January 2, so players that may miss the Epic Games Store's offering still have a chance to pickup FTL: Faster Than Light without breaking the bank.
With respect to what title will replace FTL: Faster Than Light in the Epic Games Store's 12 Days of Free Games, that is currently unknown. The seven games that have been offered through the promotion prior to FTL are almost certainly not going to be seen again, though, so fans should not expect Into the Breach, TowerFall Ascension, SuperHot, Little Inferno, Ape Out, Celeste, or Totally Accurate Battle Simulator to be available for free tomorrow.
While some players have been resistant to adopting the Epic Games Store, in part due to negative opinions about EGS exclusivity, offering free games is certainly a way to gain some new fans. Additionally, an ongoing Epic Games Store Holiday Sale is currently discounting some hot new titles, including Borderlands 3, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and Control, and this may bet yet another opportunity for the EGS to expand its user base.
