The Epic Mega Sale is entering its third week. That means that the Epic Games Store is now offering a new free game for storefront users to own and download. The past two weeks have set expectations high, but EGS users will likely find their expectations met yet again. This week's free game is Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, so EGS users actually get two free games for one. Borderlands: The Handsome Collection can be claimed between now and June 4 at 8:00 am PT.
As with previous free games during the Epic Mega Sale, EGS users are rushing to claim their free game and are unfortunately slowing/crashing the storefront. While the Epic Games Store seems to be holding up, for now, some users are claiming they aren't able to finish their purchase. It might be faster, and less frustrating, to wait until this afternoon or even tomorrow to claim a free copy of Borderlands: The Handsome Collection.
Borderlands: The Handsome Collection bundles together Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, along with all of both games' DLC. That means that Borderlands 2 players get the ability to play as both Gage, the Mechromancer, and Krieg, the Psycho. It's a great opportunity to experience the Borderlands story leading up to Borderlands 3. Especially so, considering one of Borderlands 3's upcoming DLCs appears to be focused on Krieg.
Today's unveiling of Borderlands: The Handsome Collection as the next free game on the Epic Games Store all but confirms a leak from several weeks ago. The leak named the four games planned to be given away for free during the Epic Mega Store. So far, it's 3 for 3, confirming Grand Theft Auto 5, Civilization 6, and now Borderlands: The Handsome Collection.
That means that there's one more game to come as part of the Epic Mega Sale. The fourth game rumored to be released for free is Ark: Survival Evolved. The multiplayer survival game should, if the leak is accurate, be available for free starting June 4.
Should gamers want something other than the free games being offered by the Epic Games Store, the Epic Mega Sale is ongoing. Dozens of games are discounted up to 70% off, including Red Dead Redemption 2, Borderlands 3, and other major releases. Epic is even offering an extra reusable $10 coupon for games prices $14.99 and up. The sale is halfway over and should last two more weeks.
