Fortnite developer Epic Games has recently received an "F" from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) for a variety of reasons, including not dealing with complaints in a timely manner, issues related to hacked accounts, and the big one, unauthorized credit card usage. Despite its free-to-play platform, the battle royale title contains a high number of microtransactions, with which one child managed to rack up a $1200 bill through various purchases.

This North Carolina family thought the charges were fraud at first, but that is before they realized that their 11-year-old son had made all of these purchases himself on Fortnite. Afterward, they reached out to Epic Games about a refund for these charges, with the video game developer issuing the requested refund. This was after some time, however, according to the mother.

Unfortunately, there are several stories similar to this one. In fact, the North Carolina Attorney General Consumer Protection Division alone has received 13 total complaints about the slow pace and other charges concerning Epic Games. While this may not seem like much, it goes to show the local opinion concerning a countrywide issue, as many parents have found themselves in the exact same situation.

The BBB has reportedly reached out to Epic Games on numerous occasions concerning these issues, but by all reports, the company has never responded. Of course, while these issues are of real concern, there are plenty more related to Fortnite's in-game currency, the V-buck. It also appears that V-bucks have been used to launder money across the Internet, with Epic Games itself offering little incentive for these criminals to cease their actions.

Taking all of this into consideration, several malpractices have notably been lobbied at the Fortnite developer. If it's not unauthorized credit card usage or not doing much about the aforementioned money laundering practices, it's the dances that Fortnite has seemingly pulled from other pop culture stars. And considering the large amounts of profits made in 2018, the most in gaming history according to one analysis, it can be hard for some to see why these practices go unaddressed.

Fortnite is out now in early access for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
