A brand new game from Paradox Interactive hit the scene recently and its name is Empire of Sin. Set in 1920s Chicago and centered on the Prohibition gang wars, reviews of Empire of Sin have been mixed so far.

The split reviews are hardly surprising, especially since Empire of Sin is a bit of a departure from Paradox's usual fare. Though still an extensive strategy game, it was developed by a fairly small studio for such a large project. Still, for its historical setting and brutal, interesting gameplay, it's worth checking out. For those who decide to give it a whirl, here's a quick guide on making tons of money in Empire of Sin.

Understanding The Moneymakers

There's one important thing to understand about Empire of Sin and its brand of 4X gameplay. When it comes to making money, which enables most of the actions in the game, there are five rackets that will produce it. The brewery produces alcohol, the speakeasy is where the alcohol is sold, brothels and casinos bring in more loot, and the hotel allows people to stay and visit the other three. Each of these structures is important in its own right, but a few things are important to take into account when building them.

Lean Into Strengths

It's best not to skimp on any of the moneymaking rackets, but some should be prioritized over others. Each crime boss makes certain rackets better, and these are the ones to focus on. One might simultaneously discount upgrades for a speakeasy and make breweries produces more alcohol. In this case, alcohol is the way to go, perhaps forgoing casinos and brothels for the most part. A session of Empire of Sin takes a while to beat, so while these choices may not seem significant at first, they will pay off in the long run.

Regulate the Alcohol

Alcohol stands out from the crowd as a more significant moneymaker. The better its quality, the higher the price, and people have specific demands too. Pay attention to what alcohol people want and be sure to change alcohol production to fit the demand. Do it right and the money won't stop flowing.

Raid Rackets and Appoint Lieutenants

Lieutenants can be appointed to certain rackets to provide bonuses. Some of these will give bonus money, so it's best to recruit them where possible. By defeating rival gangs, their rackets can be taken over and assigned lieutenants the same way. Some of the characters of Empire of Sin have absolutely crazy backstories, which makes recruiting them even more fun.

Empire of Sin is available for PC, PS4, Mac, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.
