Mads Mikkelsen Responds to Emma Stone Death Stranding Rumors

As is the case with most Hideo Kojima games, Death Stranding is surrounded by rumors and speculation. One rumor that has been making the rounds lately is that Academy Award-winning actress Emma Stone, who was recently named Best Actress for her role in La La Land, will play the female lead in the game. However, if Emma Stone is in Death Stranding, the actor playing the game's villain, Mads Mikkelsen, is staying tight-lipped on the matter.

"I can't talk about that, but I really like that rumor. That's a lovely rumor," Mads Mikkelsen said to the Saudi Comic-Con attendees on February 19th when asked if he had heard the rumors of Emma Stone's involvement in the game. Mikkelsen's response to the Emma Stone casting rumors is noncommittal, as to be expected, but his enthusiasm about the rumors may leave some Emma Stone fans feeling optimistic that she will be in the game.

For those unaware of the rumors surrounding Emma Stone and Death Stranding, they stem from some tweets posted by game director Hideo Kojima. The rumors started on December 3rd, when Kojima strongly suggested on Twitter that he met Emma Stone, who is someone he claims to have been "in love with" for the past 10 years.

Fast forward to February 22nd, and Kojima posted a picture on Twitter of what appeared to be a female mannequin head outfitted with motion capture tech. Besides motion capture equipment, the mannequin was also wearing a beanie from Lionsgate, the entertainment company that owns Summit Entertainment, which produced La La Land. This image fueled the speculation that Emma Stone will be in the game, but before fans get too excited, there is no concrete evidence that Stone will actually play a character in Death Stranding.

Despite the lack of evidence, it's not out of the question that Stone will appear in Death Stranding. Kojima clearly has admiration for the actress, and he is not shy about reaching out to people he wants to work with on games, even if they're high profile Hollywood celebrities.

After all, the three characters revealed for Death Stranding so far are all portrayed by celebrities, including Mads Mikkelsen, Norman Reedus, and Guillermo del Toro, so it's likely that other important characters in the game will have some star power behind them as well.

Furthermore, Emma Stone has already appeared in a video game in the past, voicing a character in Sleeping Dogs. Between Kojima's ability to secure high profile talent to work on his projects and Stone's history in the gaming industry, a Stone/Kojima collaboration isn't so farfetched. But until Kojima Productions or Emma Stone makes an official announcement, fans should take any news about the actress appearing in the game with a grain of salt.

Death Stranding is in development for PS4.
