Emilia Clarke, who most notably played Daenerys Targaryen for eight seasons on Game of Thrones, was recently cast in the upcoming Disney Plus Series Secret Invasion. While it is unclear whom Clarke will be playing at the moment, a new fan imagines what the Emmy-nominated actress would look like as a shapeshifting Skrull.

Marvel’s Secret Invasion is based on the 2008 comic with the same name. The eight-issue limited series was created by Brian Michael Bendis and followed the Skrulls’ mission to invade and conquer Earth. This group of alien shapeshifters attempted to take down the Avengers by capturing and posing as members of their team. Iconic characters like Iron Man, Spider-Woman, Black Widow, and Spider-Man were all featured in the popular crossover storyline.

Skulls were first introduced into the MCU in Captain Marvel and have been featured in numerous Marvel projects since. The latest Spider-Man installment revealed that the Nick Fury and Maria Hill that Peter Parker was working with were actually Skulls in disguise. Secret Invasion is expected to build off of Captain Marvel and focus on the Skrulls' ability to disguise themselves as superheroes. Fans have been speculating who Clarke will be playing in Secret Invasion since the typically secretive Marvel has kept her character under wraps. Now, an artist's hyper-realistic fan art provides a glimpse of what the actress would look like as a shapeshifting Skrull while retaining some of her human features.

The highly anticipated Marvel series is being written by Mr. Robot’s Kyle Bradstreet and will follow Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. Jackson’s Fury first appeared in 2008’s Iron Man and has returned in over nine MCU films to date. Secret Invasion's cast also includes One Night in Miami breakout Kingsley Ben-Adir and potentially Oscar-winning actress Olivia Colman (The FavouriteFleabag). Meanwhile, Ben Mendelsohn is reprising his role as Talos, the shape-shifting leader of the Skrulls, who went undercover as Fury’s boss in Captain Marvel.

Clarke surprised fans this month when she announced that she has developed a new superhero comic named Mother of Madness, a.k.a. M.O.M. The three-issue mini-series centers on Maya, a single mother who uses her superpowers to stop a group of human traffickers. Clarke co-wrote the series alongside long-time Marvel and DC writer Marguerite Bennett.

Clarke revealed that she came up with the concept three years ago and that it features witty humor and feminist sensibility. Illustrator Leila Leiz, contributor Isobel Richardson, and cover artist Jo Ratcliffe developed the upcoming comic.

Secret Invasion is expected to be released on Disney Plus sometime in 2022.
