While Marvel Studios' upcoming Secret Invasion series for Disney Plus has been, like the name in its title, one of their most secretive projects for phase five, new leaks have been trickling in that could potentially reveal some big plot details, one of which revolves around Emilia Clarke's new character.

Clarke was seen in a BTS Secret Invasion video filming a fight scene with another actor who was wearing a grey motion-capture CGI suit, indicating she will likely be in a role that is featured in quite a few action scenes. There were also leaks that hinted at Clarke playing Veranke, one of the main supervillains from the Secret Invasion comic storyline.

To add to the growing speculation, according to insider Daniel Richtman via The Direct, Clarke will reportedly play a Skrull from Marvel Comics known as G'iah/Gloria Warner, though this has not been officially confirmed. The report originally surfaced online around the time when Marvel Studios took the stage at San Diego Comic-Con in late July. G'iah, who made her Marvel Comics debut in Meet the Skrulls #1 in 2019, initially helped her fellow Skrulls with their invasion of Earth, but she ended up switching sides after seeing the brutality her people used for their mission.

Knowing that Clarke would love to be a part of the MCU after Secret Invasion and that Marvel Studios has kept her role a secret, whoever she ends up playing, her character will likely be a crucial part of the story moving forward in the future phases. What has been confirmed about Secret Invasion, however, is that the series will showcase many side characters who have appeared in previous MCU films. This appears to include Don Cheadle's James Rhodes/War Machine, Cobie Smulders' Maria Hill, and Martin Freeman's Everett K. Ross. Secret Invasion will be part of Phase Five of the MCU.

Created by Mr. Robot's Kyle Bradstreet, the series also stars Ben Mendelsohn as Talos and Kingsley Ben-Adir as the main villain. Olivia Colman, Killian Scott, and Christopher McDonald have also been cast in undisclosed roles. Judging from Samuel L. Jackson's social media posts and other set photos, it's still unclear when the series will take place in the MCU timeline.

However, based on Jackson donning Fury's classic eye patch as well as a more rugged, retired look, the series could very much take place after the events of Avengers: Endgame while also flashing back to the events right after Captain America: The Winter Soldier, a period of time when Fury's whereabouts were unknown and also the last time he was seen without his eye patch.

Secret Invasion is set to premiere on Disney Plus in early 2023.
