Elizabeth Olsen has seemingly confirmed the future of the Scarlet Witch in the MCU with a recent statement at a South By Southwest event interview. Her comments come in light of the MCU's upcoming WandaVision spinoff, Agatha: Coven of Chaos.Loosely based on the character from Marvel Comics and created as a spinoff of the MCU Disney Plus show WandaVision, Agatha: Coven of Chaos will follow its eponymous character after the events of the original show and her defeat at the hands of the Scarlet Witch. With WandaVision and its stars nominated for Emmys, Kathryn Hahn's Agatha Harkness was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie.RELATED: Kevin Feige Reveals How Long He Wants The MCU To LastSince it was announced in October of 2021 that the WandaVision character Agatha was getting her own show, there has been speculation about whether the Scarlet Witch would appear in the series. This came up in a recent Deadline interview with Olsen, and the star gave a rather interesting answer. After offering a short disclaimer proclaiming that she “never knows how to answer" to such questions, she answered, “I think I’ll be back.”

While not a promise, the answer is enough to ostensibly confirm the character will return, especially when taken in conjunction with Olsen's assertion that giving her ideas for a future Scarlet Witch MCU appearance might be a spoiler. The superhero genre rarely sees any character gone for good, especially when magic is conveniently at play and a corpse is conveniently absent from the character’s final scene. This was Wanda's case at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

There’s no shortage of interest in seeing Olsen reprise her now iconic role as the powerful sorceress. Her performance in WandaVision and the second Doctor Strange film certainly earned her another arc before the character and her story finally ends. With fellow WandaVision star Paul Bettany also seemingly confident he’ll reprise his Vision role at some point, another project focused solely on Wanda might even be on the table with perhaps a more cathartic end than the dissolution of her family and apparent heroic death. With all the potential and fan interest in mind, Agatha: Coven of Chaos could be the perfect re-entry point for Olsen's character.

While Olsen's involvement with any project is a draw, not even the Scarlet Witch's magic might suffice to dissuade some doubters in the upcoming series. Many fans felt Agatha: Coven of Chaos was the MCU's most unnecessary project, and there has been little from the production to change this attitude, and each passing project released seems to widen the distance between Agatha's last appearance and her next one, leading to real concerns about the character’s relevance the longer the show has remained in production.

WandaVision is now available on Disney Plus, while Agatha: Coven of Chaos is set to premiere on Disney Plus in the Winter 2023 season.
