The Elder Scrolls series has a lot of characters that players can meet and do quests for or just talk to. Some of these encounters provide interesting dialogue that discusses the lore or offers helpful tips. Then there are some encounters that might be a bit weird. Whether it's two NPCs arguing with each other over something very trivial or NPCs approaching the players and making odd requests, The Elder Scrolls knows how to make things awkward.
Sometimes even the beasts and monsters in the wild can be found in rather weird spots. To make it a little easier, here are some of the weirdest encounters in The Elder Scrolls series.
10 The Madwoman Wants To Be Wabbajacked
Anyone that is associated with Sheogorath always proves to be a weird encounter, no matter the game. This Madwoman can be found wandering around in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Should players encounter her before accepting the quest "The Mind of Madness," she will talk about Dervenin, a servant of Sheogorath, and how he'll find the Mad God. After completing the quest, she can be encountered again. Only this time, she will ask the player to use the Wabbajack on her. Using the weapon on her will always turn her into rabbit and she'll run away.
9 Tarhiel "Flies"
A male Bosmer mage that can be encountered just outside Seyda Neen in The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Most players won't be able to talk to him because he falls out of the sky and dies on impact. His journal will be with him and players will be able to read it and find out what happened. Tahriel was working on a spell that would help him fly so he wouldn't have to pay for travel expenses.
None of his colleagues took him seriously and laughed at him for his endeavors. Believing he perfected the spell, he went to test it out. Unfortunately, this poor Wood Elf did not perfect it and only managed to jump really high and was not prepared when he started falling back down to Nirn. His death is referenced in The Elder Scrolls V: Skryim in the Dragonborn DLC.
8 Uncle Sweetshare Wants To Spread Cheer
An insane alchemist appeared in The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Players will learn about him when in Fort Frostmouth. An Imperial Guard named Severia Gratius will tell the player about someone drugging the inhabitants' drinks with moon sugar, a highly addictive narcotic. She'll ask for help to find the culprit and give a reward if they kill them and prove it. This quest will lead the player to Uncle Sweetshare.
Uncle Sweetshare doesn't share anything about his past, ironically, but he took on the role of Uncle Sweetshare, inspired by a children's song. Instead of giving candy, he drugs the drinks of adults with moon sugar. The player can either convince him to stop drugging people or kill him.
7 Deep-In-His-Cups Wants His Money
There is an Argonian that players can run into during or after the "A Night to Remember" quest in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Deep-In-His-Cups will run up to the player and demand that they pay him the money that was promised. When asked what for, he tells the player that they and Sam Guevenne (who is the Sanguine, the Daedric Prince of Debauchery and Revelry in disguise) bet him to steal a helm from a bandit camp during their drunken night. He demands 10,000 gold for stealing the helm. The player can either pay him the amount he demands, talk him down to 750 gold, intimidate him, or say they don't have any money.
6 The Mudcrab Merchant
One of the weirdest encounters in The Elder Scrolls series has to be The Mudcrab Merchant. This little guy can be encountered in The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. He can be found just to the east of Mzahnch in the Azura's Coast region. Not much is known about him other than he has a "serious alcohol problem." The Mudcrab Merchant is also the richest merchant in the game and carries 10,000 gold on him. He will buy and sell items at their base value, regardless of Disposition and Mercantile skill, unlike other NPC merchants.
5 Ereel-Jush And Esmada Can't Agree With Each Other
Ereel-Jush is a Naga (a breed of Argonian) storyteller that Esmada, a female Redguard bard, has tracked down so she can learn them. He is more than happy to share those stories, but there's one thing they can't agree on - censorship. Ereel-Jush will voice his displeasure at Esmada for changing the words of the story to sound less crude. This is a bit surprising since Redguards are known to be a fierce warrior race, and Esmada actually wants to censor it. Players can help them resolve this and chose one or the other's side on how the stories should be told.
4 The Worst Troll Ever
One of the oddest encounters in the series involves an unfortunate troll. In The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, there is a small bridge just past the Mouth of the Panther, southeast of Bravil. If players look under the bridge, there will be a dead troll floating in the water with a note near it. The note was written by the dead troll and reveals what happened to him. The troll believed himself to be the worst troll ever since anyone passing the bridge wouldn't pay the toll he demanded. He wrote that he would get drunk then drown himself.
3 Plautis And Salonia Carvain Have Bad Luck
An Imperial couple that's just trying to make it to Solitude for Vittoria Vici's wedding in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim run into a bit of bad luck. Players can encounter them walking around Skyrim with their bodyguard, trying to find their way to Solitude. The couple is very rude when talking to the player and will keep the conversation short. After Vittoria's assassination, the couple can be encountered again, only it seems they've fallen on hard times.
Their dialogue will reveal that their bodyguard was eaten by a dragon, Plautis' clothes were torn by a sabre cat, the two were robbed by bandits, and Salonia lost her shoes. Even after these events, both will continue to be rude to the player and treat them just like they did before.
2 Unicorns Do Exist
In case anyone doubted that unicorns exist in the world of The Elder Scrolls, this one exists to prove them wrong. This extremely rare being can be found in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. After making an offering to the Daedric Prince of the Hunt, Hircine, the player will be ordered by him to kill a unicorn. This unicorn can be found at Harcane Grove and guarded by three Minotaurs. Only magic, silver, daedric weapons, or enchanted weapons can kill this unicorn. Once the unicorn is dead, the player can take its horn back to Hircine's shrine and earn the Savior's Hide, Hircine's Daedric Artifact.
1 Choixth Isn't Hurting Anyone
Choixth is a female Argonian that can be encountered throughout the Summerset Isles in The Elder Scrolls Online. Every time she's encountered, it seems she's always in trouble with Baliff Naramin, a member of the Divine Prosecution. He accuses her of loitering and threatens to arrest her for it. The player can help either Choixth or Naramin.
But there's more to Choixth than meets the eye. Players can later find her in Murkmire and find out she's a Shadowscale. Shadowscales are Argonians born under The Shadow sign and trained to be assassins for the Dark Brotherhood or the King of Black Marsh. It is implied from her dialogue that she killed Baliff Naramin while she was in Summerset.
