There's no denying that some of those most interesting quests and characters in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim involve the Daedric Lords. Often considered demonic and evil, they hold access to rare and unique weapons that can be incredibly overpowered early on in the open-world game.
One of the Daedric Lords that can be interacted even at lower levels of the game is Azura. The player will receive hints throughout Skyrim about visiting her shrine, which will trigger her signature quest. However, there's still much that remains shrouded in mystery about this Daedric Lord in particular.
10 Her Plane Is Called Moonshadow
Not much is known about Moonshadow, the plane in which Azura rules in the world of Oblivion. However, what is known makes it sound like quite a unique and vibrant place, different from the homes of most Daedric Lords. It is said that mortals become blinded by Moonshadow due to how gorgeous it looks.
Moonshadow has been described as a sort of garden world, with a city made completely out of silver. There are various roses and heavy trees scattered around, and the air is so fragrant it's been said those who travel there breathe in pure perfume.
9 Her Statue Is Found In The Real World
In Skyrim, the statue of Azura is found just over her shrine in the northeastern mountains before arriving to Saarthal and Winterhold. Her form looms over those who make it over to this secluded area to worship her, and she's one of the greatest sights to see in the game.
Luckily, this view doesn't just exist in the world of fantasy. Azura's statue can also be found in the real world in Alanya, Turkey, at the Azura Deluxe Resort & Spa hotel — which is absolutely breathtaking.
8 She Doesn't Like The Dwemer
Azura and the Dwemer aren't exactly on good terms, and there's one possible explanation for it found within a lore book that appears in Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim. Titled Azura and the Box, it details an encounter with a Dwemer and Azura herself.
Nchylbar, the Dwemer in question, asks Azura what object is inside a sealed wooden box as a way to prove that she's all-seeing as a Daedric Lord. When Azura guesses the wrong answer, she disappears and it's implied that Nchylbar was satisfied with himself knowing he could die at peace with his newfound truth.
7 She Gave Dunmer Their Appearance
Azura is a very dear being to the Dunmer in particular, who recognize her as an important Daedra in Morrowind. Long before, when the Chimer existed in Morrowind and before the Tribunal was born, the Chimer looked up to Azura as their god.
It's said that Azura actually created the Dunmer from the Chimer by turning their skin into ashen grey. This was known as a curse from Azura, who wanted to punish the Chimer for looking up to the Tribunal, rather than worshipping her, Boethiah and Mephala.
6 She Contributed To Khajiit Stereotypes
When Azura was first involved in the creation of mortal races by taking the children of Nirni, she was told by Fadomai that some of Nirni's children should be turned into Khajiit, and that these Khajiit beings needed to have very specific traits and features.
In particular, Khajiit had to be the "best climbers and best liars" in the world, which is quite ironic considering these are some of the reasons why Khajiit are viewed with such negativity by other races. And so, it's possible Azura actually sealed the fate of Khajiit by creating these stereotypes in the first place.
5 She's Nocturnal's Sister
There aren't many Daedric Lords who are similar to Azura in the sense that they appear somewhat tolerant of the mortal races and show themselves regularly in mortal form. However, one Lord in particular resembles Azura quite a bit in her mode of operation.
Nocturnal has many similarities to Azura, to the point where she has occasionally been called Azura's sister. Since Daedric Lords aren't actual mortal beings it's difficult to say whether this is true or not, but it's an intriguing possibility nonetheless.
4 She May Have Caused The End Of The Dwemer
In the history of the Dwemer kind, Azura holds a very special position. It's quite possible that she was the one to make the Dwemer disappear so suddenly, even if there are other more plausible theories to explain why an entire race just simply vanished.
The Heart of Lorkhan was a precious item that the Dwemer had control of, until Nerevar vanquished them and was ordered by Azura to recover the heart. Following this, the Dwemer vanished, which means there could be a relation between the heart and the Dwemer race itself.
3 She's An Exceptionally Kind Daedric Lord
The Daedric Lords are definitely not known for being kind, fair players when it comes to mortals. They're often bored and cruel, and they enjoy toying and manipulating mortals, even going as far as pitting friends against each other in the name of greed.
But Azura's different. If anything, she's almost benevolent. Much like Nocturnal, she treats mortals with surprising respect, although she still enjoys commanding them.
2 Her Star Is Incredibly Powerful
The Daedric artifact involved in Azura's questline is known as Azura's Star, which is a soul gem with infinite use. It's particularly handy for players who want to get into enchanting weapons and armor since it doesn't require them to constantly find new soul gems.
However, there's more to this artifact. It's been said that Azura's Star is so powerful that it can house even incredibly large and strong souls. This includes the souls of Vivec and Almalexia, both of whom were god-like beings among mortals and part of the Tribunal in Morrowind.
1 She Created Khajiit From Bosmer
Much like she created the Dunmer from the Chimer, it's very much implied that Azura was involved in the creation of the Khajiit as well. Fadomai or Padomay, one of the founding divine forces in Tamriel, actually told Azura to turn some of Nirni's children, the representation of the mortal world, into Khajiit.
The tale tells that many of Nirni's children passed away, children who were referred to as "forest people," which could well be a reference to the Bosmer. As a result, Azura turned these children into Khajiit, which truly does mean that the Bosmer and Khajiit have much more in common than most would imagine.
