The Forsworn are a group of Reachmen that can be found in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The Forsworn can be found around Markarth and The Reach hold. The Forsworn will attack any travelers using ranged attacks and magic. When the Empire took control of Skyrim, the Forsworn lost their homeland and a lot of their rights.

Forsworn have taken over forts and caves surrounding Markarth, trying to take it back. The Reach is covered in forests and surrounded by mountains, making it easier for the Forsworn to plan their attacks. No matter what race, travelers in The Reach should watch their backs.

10 Able To Steal A Briarheart's Heart

Briarhearts are a unique version of the Forsworn, having their hearts replaced with a Briar Heart. This leaves a hole in their chest, where the player is able to see the newly replaced heart. What players probably did not know is that the heart can be pickpocketed.

Because of this, Briarhearts are able to notice players quicker than most enemies can. If the player happens to successfully sneak up and pickpocket the heart, the enemy will fall over dead. Players are able to manifest their Temple of Doom powers and rip their hearts out.

9 Forsworn Are In A Rebellion

The Forsworn are the Reachmen who originally inhabited the hold. When the Empire came in, they were displaced and removed from the cities. The Forsworn are using the chaos of the civil war to take back the lands they once owned.

The rebellion started after Ulfric Stormcloak forcefully removed the Forsworn from Markarth. The rebellion has made it dangerous for any player to travel through The Reach.

8 Forsworn Briefly Took Markarth

When the Empire got distracted by the Great War, the Forsworn attacked and took over Markarth for two years. The Reach had become its own kingdom again, and it was said the Forsworn ruled their lands fairly – unless someone was a Nord landowner.

The occupation came to an end when Ulfric Stormcloak was asked to remove the Forsworn from Markarth. After having their kingdom restores for two years, it is no wonder the Forsworn are so hellbent on getting their land back.

7 The Forsworn Leader Is In Prison

The leader of the Forsworn Rebellion is named Madanach, and he is in the Markarth mines as a prisoner. With the help of the Dragonborn, Madanach can be broken out of the mines and reinstated as the leader of the Forsworn. Likewise, the Dragonborn can decide they want to kill Madanach instead.

If the player does rescue him, Madanach can be found in a Forsworn camp wearing the armor of the Reachmen. This is helpful, as the Forsworn located at the camp will now be friendly to the player.

6 Special Armor Makes Forsworn Friendly

By helping Madanach escape the mines, the player will be rewarded with a special armor called Armor of the Old Guards. Wearing the full set of this armor will make Forsworn found in the wild friendly. These friendly Forsworn can assist the player in battle, too.

Be careful, though. Forsworn found in camps and forts will still attack the player. While it would be nice for all Forsworn to be friendly, it is good to know that the player can now safely travel through The Reach.

5 Forsworn Killed Jarl Hrolfdir

Jarl Hrolfdir was the jarl of Markarth when the Forsworn took over the city. After asking Ulfric Stormcloak to clear the city, Hrolfdir decided to try to make peace with the Reachmen. Instead, he was killed and his son took over as jarl. Hrolfdir's shield was taken and given to the Hagravens.

Hrolfdir's son, Igmund, will ask the player to retrieve his father's shield from the Forsworn. Doing so will give Igmund a piece of his father and take some revenge on the Forsworn.

4 There Is Only One Non-Breton

Borkul the Beast is an Orc and a member of the Forsworn. Borkul acts as the bodyguard of Madanach while he is in prison and after they escape.

Borkul will get a set of Forsworn armor after escaping, making him one of the only non-Bretons to wear the armor naturally. When speaking to the characters in the mine and around Markarth, they all say that Borkul is a brute who takes pleasure in killing, making him a foe to watch out for.

3 Hagravens Allied With Forsworn

Hagravens can be found alongside the Forsworn throughout The Reach. Hagravens are also responsible for the creation of the Briarhearts, performing the ritual to make them. Hagravens can also be found fighting alongside the Forsworn.

Two named Forsworn Hagravens can be found at the Blind Cliff Cave. These two are named Melka and Petra, two sisters who are in a fight. The player can rescue Melka and kill Petra, giving the dungeon back to Melka.

2 Rumored To Worship Daedra

It is rumored in The Pocket Guide to the Empire that Reachmen had interbred with Daedra, so it would make sense if they also worshipped the Daedra. Forsworn armor looks similar to artifacts the player can receive from Hircine, the Daedric Prince of the hunt.

The way the Forsworn take part in Hagraven rituals, such as becoming Briarhearts, also adds to the rumor that they worship Daedra. Because of this, Forsworn are considered to be barbaric and savages.

1 Red Eagle Is Important To The Forsworn

Red Eagle is a hero to Reachmen, as Red Eagle defended The Reach from invading armies. Red Eagle also became a Briarheart, adding to his power. In Skyrim, Forsworn can be found occupying the areas around his burial. This is because Red Eagle is a hero to the Forsworn.

The Forsworn during the time of Skyrim draw parallels to his battle, as he fought against an occupying force to get his land back. This is why the player can find so many Forsworn camps around his burial site and locations important to his history.
