Fans of The Elder Scrolls Online have been excited to venture back to Skyrim in its newest expansion pack, and the wait is finally over. In The Elder Scrolls Online: Greymoor, new areas of the familiar world of Skyrim can be explored with new mechanics, quests, and loot to discover.

Some of these features will be nostalgic to fans of Skyrim, like the return of vampire lords that appears in the Dawnguard expansion, and the chance to travel around Solitude again. Other additions bring fresh features that keep things exciting. Here's what fans can expect from this new DLC.

10 Greymoor Takes Place Before The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Some fans might be hoping that they will be able to see what happens in Tamriel after the Dragonborn saved the day in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, but that won't be the case in this expansion pack. Instead, players will see what Skyrim was like hundreds of years before the Dragonborn even got sent to Helgen.

While this might disappoint some fans at first, this timing has the potential to provide more Skyrim lore, as well as the feeling of nostalgia from being another hero that will leave Skyrim's citizens in awe.

9 Archaeology Will Be Important

While exploring caves, abandoned houses, and castles has always been a part of The Elder Scrolls Online, now there will be even more reason to look in every nook and cranny of the map. After completing quests or stumbling across something interesting in a chest, players may find an item that will give them clues as to where a relic is.

These clues tell players the locations that have the chance to give them some cool loot. If players want to get items that can give them an upper-hand in a fight or some new clothes to try on, they'll want to keep an eye out for these artifacts as much as possible.

8 Mystic Items Will Give Players A Choice

Mystic items in Greymoor might remind some fans of the Flaws system in The Outer Worlds where you can accept a potential weakness in exchange for a potential perk. In the case of Greymoor and its mystic items system, players may find items that will give them a helpful perk, but some of these items might apply more negative effects to the player when they're equipped.

While not all of the mystic items have this kind positive versus negative effect, they are all so powerful that the game doesn't allow you to wear more than one mystic item. You can get these items through archaeology.

7 Vampire Lords Are Back

Fans who liked the Dawnguard DLC from Skyrim might enjoy the storyline of Greymoor for similar reasons. Greymoor has players facing off against creatures that should already be familiar to The Elder Scrolls Online players, such as vampires and werewolves. However, these monsters are now following the orders of a vampire lord, similar to how many vampires in Skyrim were following the orders of the vampire lord known as Lord Harkon.

While players will be fighting this monster army instead of potentially making the choice to join it like in Dawnguard, the ability to become a vampire or a werewolf isn't limited to Greymoor. Any player can become one of these creatures if they know where to look, and who to fight.

6 Greymoor Is The Second Part Of 'The Dark Heart Of Skyrim'

Some fans may not realize that, while Greymoor is a larger expansion pack, it is actually part of an even larger story called "The Dark Heart of Skyrim," which players can start in the Harrowstorm DLC. Two more DLC additions are planned to release this year that will continue with "The Dark Heart of Skyrim" story, so fans of Skyrim may have much to look forward to.

Greymoor will likely stay the largest DLC in this storyline though, as the other DLC packs that have been released or planned are said to either be dungeons or zones. If players enjoyed the Harrowstorm DLC, Greymoor is sure to suck them into this new story even more.

5 A New Group Trial Has Been Added

Greymoor introduces a challenging group trial for players to try out called "Kyne's Aegis", and it's one that players might want to have a very big group for. This trial has players fighting through vampires, half-giants, and other creatures along with three different bosses to defeat before the trial can be completed.

Some of these bosses even call upon more monsters to come to their aid, so players will definitely have their hands full during these battles. The trial can give fans some nice rewards, but there are plenty of difficult stages that make players work hard for their loot.

4 More World Events Will Appear

To add to The Elder Scrolls Online's list of world events, Greymoor has added Harrowstorms that let players fight waves of enemies to save the land and hopefully get some good loot at the same time. These storms can be seen by the appearance of red clouds and heavy winds before large amounts of monsters will start to appear.

Whether players join up to complete as many of these world events as they can, or if they just happen to stumble across a storm, these Harrowstorms are sure to give fans a good fight with lots of teamwork involved.

3 Some Skills Have Been Added & Updated

As mentioned, players have been able to play as vampires in The Elder Scrolls Online since before Greymoor was released. However, it's worth noting that the skills for these vampires have changed quite a bit. Some abilities have been added while others have been replaced, feeding looks different for players, and the vampire stages have new pros and cons.

Along with this change, Greymoor has added two new skills, scrying and excavation, both of which help the player discover antiquities. While the scrying and excavation skills are helpful for players that want to get some powerful items, players who have been or want to be vampires might want to look over these new skills to see how things might change for their game.

2 New Public Locations For Fun With Groups

For fans of traveling with friends, guild members, or even other players that they happened to cross paths with, Greymoor adds plenty of new adventures to tackle as a team. Besides the "Kyne's Aegis" trail, Greymoor also comes with several public areas for players to explore together, including more delves and dungeons that allow fans to get lots of loot.

With so many new items to discover, it will be worth it to take a team to get loot as efficiently as possible. Players might even be lucky enough to find some new armor that's been added or at least some materials to craft them.

1 Dragons Stay In Elsweyr

One of the main staples of Skyrim was the ability to fight dragons while using shouts and making armor from their bones and scales. Unfortunately, dragons seem to stay in Elsweyr in The Elder Scrolls Online, so any fans that were hoping to fight more dragons or visit Paarthurnax might be disappointed.

There are still a few references to dragons in this expansion, such as the Dragon Bridge that stands between Markarth and Solitude, but the creatures themselves are absent while vampires and werewolves try to take over. Players can still travel to Elsweyr if they miss the winged beasts, while they can fight the smaller, blood-sucking foes without worrying about adding a dragon into the mix.
