A new campaign and chapter for Elder Scrolls Online was announced today by Bethesda Softworks, set to come out in 2021. The Elder Scrolls Online campaign's story will be about the destruction of Tamriel and the Gates of Oblivion.

Elder Scrolls Online has been through many new expansions and changes since its launch in 2014. This newest chapter in ESO will explore what looks like massive trouble for the citizens of Tamriel, digging deeper into the Gates of Oblivion and what might be the return of Mehrunes Dagon. Bethesda was a little scarce on the details in the reveal, but promised more information in a month at its reveal party in January 2021. The teaser is only about a minute and a half long, but it is filled with details that spell out lots of danger to come.

The Elder Scrolls Online’s 2021 Global Reveal Event for the next campaign of ESO will be streamed live on Twitch on January 21st, 2021. ZeniMax Online Studio’s Director Matt Firor, Bethesda Softwork’s Senior VP of Marketing and Communications Pete Hines, and ESO’s Creative Director Rich Lambert will be supplying more information about the upcoming year-long expansion that was teased at the The Game Awards 2020. Bethesda is also giving away a free mount for any ESO players that sit in on the reveal.

"Destruction besets Tamriel in 2021, so tune in January 21 at 5PM on Twitch.tv/Bethesda and get ready to learn about ESO’s exciting future," the announcement states, promising "Gates of Oblivion’s new worlds, challenges, systems, and adventures—all coming in 2021!" This announcement came fast on the heels of an ESO free-to-play weekend last weekend.

It will be interesting to venture back to the Gates of Oblivion, even if it isn't the remake that fans were hoping for. Especially since ZeniMax has promised that Bethesda will continue on as it has without Microsoft putting any hands into the works. This is great news for the long-time fans of The Elder Scrolls series as a whole, and ESO, specifically.

While a new expansion for ESO isn't the Elder Scrolls 6 information that fans are craving and not a whole new game as some Elder Scrolls fans may have thought, the teaser looks like it may be a worthwhile expansion for the well-received, popular Online. Hopefully players who tune into the reveal party will get more information next month about Gates of Oblivion, and see what 2021 has in store for Tamriel.

Elder Scrolls Online is available for Mac, PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
