Staffs come in two variations, one being destruction the other being restoration. Both of these types come with their own skills that can break or make a player's build. That's why these are by far the best staff skills players should consider using when exploring the MMO of the Elder Scrolls Online.

8 Absorb

Starting off with the passive skills that can be bought for staffs, the restoration staffs passive skills of Absorb can be quite useful when getting into battles with a player's group. While blocking an attack with the Restoration Staff players are able to restore some of their Magicka. This is the energy needed to cats many of the staff abilities players are likely to be using.

Upgrading Absorb can make the player incredibly self-sufficient as they don't need to worry about running out of Magicka to use more of their abilities. Every little helps when getting into intense situations where players may find themselves running out of resources to fight back.

7 Destruction Expert

Similarly to the Restoration Staff, Destruction Staffs in the Elder Scrolls Online are also able to restore Magicka but through a different method, this can be achieved by obtaining the Destruction Expert Passive Skill.

Once killing an enemy with the destruction staff. This can be using a standard attack or one of the many abilities connected to the staff, therefore players are always receiving a small bit of magical energy back as they continue attacking. However, players cannot unlock this until they hit rank 50 with Destruction Staffs and therefore this may be a passive they unlock later into playing.

6 Essence Drain

Continuing to explore passive abilities another great skill many restoration staff users should consider purchasing is Essence Drain, this is not only beneficial to the player but also those the player is enjoying ESO with. Essence Drain applies the buff known as Major Mending to the players after using a heavy attack on an enemy.

With this buff in hand, the player is then able to do 16% more healing to themselves as well as other players with their other restoration abilities. This ability then goes on to also heal the player or a nearby ally for half the damage they may have taken from a heavy attack also.

5 Penetrating Magic

A simple but effective passive ability that is also brilliant for players using Destruction Staffs to consider obtaining once they unlock it at rank 17 is the ability Penetrating Magic. It's important for a player to hit an enemy for as much damage as possible and this can be increased by having this passive.

Penetrating Magic allows the player's destruction staff to ignore 10% of the enemies' spell resistance allowing it to be even more effective when attacking with actual active abilities from the staff. Unfortunately, this doesn't pass over for other spells and therefore players would need to focus on upgrading their destruction staff skills to make the most of it.

4 Blessings Of Protection

Combat Prayer skill in Elder Scrolls Online

Finally moving onto the active skills that can be purchased, Blessings of Protection is an active ability of the restoration staff that heals both the player and their allies. This is an incredibly vital skill for any restoration staff user to obtain due to the power that is behind it.

Regularly it heals for a large amount while also granting Minor Resolve to all players giving them both physical and spell resistance for ten seconds. However, morphing this ability in Combat Prayer can be even more useful. This not only heals but also grants Minor Berserk alongside Minor Resolve which increases the amount of damage players do by a small percentage.

3 Force Shock

Force Shock is the first active ability players will unlock in the Destruction Staff skills, this is an incredibly useful ability due to how it helps players level up their destruction skill while also becoming incredibly lethal to enemies.

As it is without morphing, Force Shock focuses its wrath on one enemy hitting them with a combination of fire, ice, and shock damage. Morphing this into Crushing Shock will then allow the ability to interrupt an enemy spell casting therefore putting them off balancing and denying them the damage they wish to return.

2 Grand Healing

Illustrious Healing skill in Elder Scrolls Online

Due to being a Restoration Staff many of its active abilities involve healing in some fashion. Grand Healing may at first sound no different that the others though it's actually one of the strongest heals that the staff can do. This healing ability heals both the player and allies around them in an area of effect healing spell.

This makes it a great edition when taking on World Bosses or other activities that may require lots of players to join together. Morphing it then into Illustrious Healing may not add any new effects to the spell, but it does increase the duration and therefore the healing spirits may aid for longer before needing to be recast.

1 Wall Of Elements

Unstable Wall Of Elements skill in Elder Scrolls Online

By far one of the best Destruction Staff abilities as well as one of the first players will unlock once they begin to level up in the skill is Wall of Elements. Not only does this ability do a decent amount of damage to enemies through attacking those in a direct line, it also has different effects depending on the type of destruction staff being used by the player.

Morphing this ability into Unstable Wall of Elements increases the destruction of the staff as once the ability is over the wall of elements will explode causing more damage to the enemies trapped within or around it.

The Elder Scrolls Online is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
