When it comes to video game fandom, one area of interest is the illustrious world map, which not only serves as a way for gamers to find their way around, but have become something of a staple, especially in this era. Take, for example, Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, in which one person managed to recreate the whole game's map in real life. Sometimes, seeing the real thing is just as special, especially for this fan who got a surprise when they visited a secondhand store.

In a post uploaded to Reddit yesterday, user u/linuspau discovered something rather special hanging on the wall of a store they visited. Among numerous paintings, almost blending in, was a framed picture of the Skyrim map. What's interesting about this is that there doesn't seem to be any context as to how or why it ended up in the store. However, it does seem like this a particularly rare find.

While the framed picture has a certain element of charm, u/linuspau decided not to buy it in the end as they said they already had a copy of the Skyrim map at home. They also didn't say which secondhand store they saw it in, which sadly means that no one else who is interested in buying it could do so.

Elder Scrolls, and other RPG, maps are something that have become important in gaming over the years. Not only because of their uses, but also because of the level of detail that goes into making them, which all go towards making the in-game world seem that more real. Fans have been interested in video game maps for some time now, to the point where one person managed to burn the Skyrim map into a piece of wood with incredible attention to detail. If nothing else, this shows the level of dedication fans have when it comes to the more cartographic side of gaming.

Maps can also show the sheer size of a game. With large open worlds and some of the biggest maps in games that accompany them, gamers can get lost across miles and miles of digital terrain. Possessing a framed photo that showcases one of the most famous maps in gaming is a unique and rare find, and while the Reddit user chose not to buy it, it's a testament to the power of video game maps that such a curio can end up in a secondhand store seemingly mixed among a series of artwork.

Skyrim is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
