There was a five year gap between the release of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion and The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, but Skyrim's been out for 10 years with The Elder Scrolls 6 still nowhere in sight. Bethesda is currently busy developing its open world sci-fi game Starfield, and it's expected to finally tackle The Elder Scrolls 6 at some point after that game is finished. Very little is known about The Elder Scrolls 6 and Bethesda's plans for it in an official capacity, but Todd Howard recently teased some ways that the game may improve on Skyrim.

In an interview with IGN, Todd Howard teased that The Elder Scrolls 6 could have more "interactivity" with its gameplay systems when compared to Skyrim. "There are a number of parts of [Skyrim] where we don't go deep enough, where it's a veneer in terms of its interactivity," Howard sign in the IGN interview. Howard also teased that The Elder Scrolls 6 could have improved AI and fans may notice some upgrades when it comes to NPC interactions in general.

Of course, this is all very vague, but it still gives fans a small tease of what the may be able to expect when it comes to how The Elder Scrolls 6 could improve on Skyrim. Unfortunately for those looking forward to the game, though, it will likely be years before anyone actually sees it in action.

Bethesda is currently busy developing Starfield, which isn't set to launch until November 11, 2022. Fans can expect Starfield updates throughout next year as Bethesda and Microsoft hype the game up, and then maybe some time after its launch fans will get their first real look at The Elder Scrolls 6. So far, all fans have is a brief Elder Scrolls 6 teaser and not much else, so even another teaser would likely go a long way in drumming up excitement.

If nothing else, a fresh Elder Scrolls 6 teaser could give fans more to work with when it comes to crafting theories about what the game will entail. So far, the prevailing theory is that The Elder Scrolls 6 will be set in Hammerfell, though nothing official has been announced in that regard.

Optimstically, The Elder Scrolls 6 release date is likely not going to come until 2025 at the earliest, and so fans have a long wait ahead of them. While they wait, they can check out the Skyrim Anniversary Edition that's set to launch soon as well as Starfield when it releases next year.

The Elder Scrolls 6 is in development.
